During the month of February, we look to share and celebrate the many accomplishments of Black individuals, while also reflecting upon the collective lived experiences of Black people who have contributed to the history and culture of our country.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This year, the national theme for Black History Month is \u201cAfrican American and the Arts.\u201d This theme has a primary premise that the concept of Black history, culture and art embodies an array of diversity and intersectionality as opposed to being a single story. Whether digital, literary, visual or performing arts, Black artists have participated in transforming their fields by bringing in new techniques and styles. Through art, important issues and figures in African American history are exalted and stories are preserved.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As a community, let\u2019s continue to acknowledge that Black History is American history and we must continue to recognize the accomplishments, advancements, sacrifices and struggles of Black Americans. This month at NAU, the IMQ and Black Student Union will provide educational programs and activities for all members of the NAU community. Find the <\/span>full month of events online<\/span><\/a>\u2014I hope you are able to participate.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Also during the month of February, the Lunar New Year is celebrated\u20142024 is the year of the dragon, which represents ambition, charisma, passion and enthusiasm. The Lunar New Year is observed by members of the East and Southeast Asian communities, so please take time to wish this community a Happy New Year.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
