{"id":70889,"date":"2024-01-09T09:57:27","date_gmt":"2024-01-09T16:57:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/?p=70889"},"modified":"2024-01-09T11:31:29","modified_gmt":"2024-01-09T18:31:29","slug":"inclusive-excellence-workshops","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/inclusive-excellence-workshops\/","title":{"rendered":"Build inclusive excellence through free employee workshops"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This semester, Northern Arizona University employees will have the opportunity to boost their understanding of inclusivity in the workplace and beyond.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Beginning in January, NAU\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/center-for-inclusive-excellence-and-access\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Center for Inclusive Excellence and Access<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, in collaboration with Human Resources, will offer a series of free professional development workshops focused on building employees\u2019 awareness of implicit thought, developing a vocabulary of inclusive language and more.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Justin Mallett<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, NAU\u2019s vice president of inclusive excellence and access, said the workshop series took a hiatus in 2023\u2014but now it\u2019s back and better than ever.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cWe wanted to make sure that we are providing a welcoming and inclusive model and format, with learning outcomes that can be utilized in the classroom and within the community,\u201d Mallett said.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Level 1 of the series will focus on developing inclusive excellence from the individual perspective. The kickoff workshop, hosted by Mallett and Assistant Director for Learning and Development <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Lee Griffin<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, is \u201cImplicit Thought: What Is it? How to Reduce It?\u201d In future sessions\u2014&#8221;Principles of Inclusion,&#8221; &#8220;Inclusive Language&#8221; and &#8220;Elevating Inclusive Voices&#8221;\u2014speakers will explore how to speak and act in an inclusive way and how to recruit, retain and support diverse faculty and staff. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Mallett said that in the spirit of inclusivity, employees will be able to choose between Zoom and in-person sessions.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">To enroll in the workshops, log in to LOUIE, select the Learning and Development Tile and search by course name.
