The exam is the final step toward earning the association\u2019s Certified Organizational Ombudsman Practitioner credential, which to date only 100 organizational ombudsmen have earned.<\/li>\n<li>Representatives from NAU\u2019s Honors Program made the following presentations at the National Collegiate Honors Council national conference in Phoenix last week:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Margaret Sheble<\/strong>, history and art history dual major, presented a student interdisciplinary research panel, \u201cThe Once and Future Hero: A Vindicated Mordred.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Anne Scott<\/strong>, English professor and Honors writing and academic enrichment program coordinator, and\u00a0<strong>Glenn Hansen<\/strong>, assistant director for the Honors Program, along with Honors students\u00a0<strong>Jackie Rindone<\/strong>, international affairs major, and\u00a0<strong>Bryan Kimoto<\/strong>, philosophy and English dual major, presented \u201cAn Integrated First-Year Experience: Learning, Teaching, Leadership, Mentoring, Service.\u201d\n<p>Hansen also co-presented \u201cBuilding Bridges Across Arizona: Perspectives on a State Honors Council,\u201d along with other Arizona Honors Council members.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Five members of\u00a0NAU\u2019s English Department presented at the Rocky Mountain Modern Language Association\u2019s 65th annual conference in Scottsdale Oct. 6-9.\u00a0<strong>Nancy G. Barron<\/strong>, associate professor of English, presented \u201cOur Goals Influence Our Performance: Looking at Assessment via Goal Setting and Evaluation.\u201d\u00a0<strong>Sibylle Gruber<\/strong>, professor of English, presented \u201cAcquiring Languages, Acquiring Cultures: Learning English in Context.\u201d\u00a0<strong>Karen J. Renner<\/strong>, lecturer in American literature, presented \u201cThe Antebellum Origins of the Superhero.\u201d\u00a0<strong>Donelle R. Ruwe<\/strong>, associate professor of English, presented \u201cUtilitarian Poetics: Enigmas, Conundrums, Acrostics, and Charades in Children\u2019s Poetry from 1780-1835.\u201d And English literature graduate student\u00a0<strong>Erica C. Schmitt<\/strong>\u00a0presented \u201cWoman Resisting Motherhood: Michael Cunningham\u2019s\u00a0<em>The Hours\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>Flesh and Blood.<\/em>\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Laura L. As part of the conference&#8217;s theme of social justice, Gunn organized a book drive that raised more than $2,200 to buy\u00a0330 classroom books for the\u00a0Lindbergh Elementary School\u00a0in Mesa\u2014a school of 600 students, the majority of whom are English language learners and on financial assistance for the school&#8217;s lunch program. NAU English professor\u00a0<strong>Monica Brown<\/strong>\u00a0donated two of her bilingual children&#8217;s books.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Wes Swaffar<\/strong>, a graduate student in environmental sciences and policy\u2014along with assistant professor\u00a0<strong>Erik Nielsen<\/strong>, professor\u00a0<strong>Abe Springer<\/strong>\u00a0and research specialist\u00a0<strong>Sharon Masek Lopez\u00a0<\/strong>from the School of Earth Sciences and Environmental Sustainability; and assistant professor\u00a0<strong>Julie Mueller<\/strong>\u00a0and professor\u00a0<strong>Xiaobing Zhao<\/strong>\u00a0from The W.A. Franke College of Business\u2014hosted a workshop for watershed managers, national experts and scholars to shed light on the potential of implementing Payment for Watershed Services programs to fund forest restoration on more than 12 million acres of degraded National Forest lands in the western United States. Participants identified the opportunities and challenges associated with such programs on publicly owned forest lands and offered recommendations for future implementation. The workshop was part of a larger project funded by the National Science Foundation\u2019s Water Sustainability and Climate Program and NAU\u2019s Watershed Research and Education Program.<\/li>\n<li>Several NAU students, faculty and alumni are featured in the 2011 National Juried Ceramics Exhibition at the NAU Art Museum. Art student\u00a0<strong>Blake McCord<\/strong>\u00a0has pieces\u00a0<em>Spire<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Untitled<\/em>; art student\u00a0<strong>Ben Jordan\u00a0<\/strong>has pieces\u00a0<em>Whiskey Jug<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>3 Mugs;<\/em>\u00a0art student\u00a0<strong>Eugene Brosseau<\/strong>\u00a0has pieces\u00a0<em>Swamp Sparrow<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Badge<\/em>. Ceramics instructor\u00a0<strong>Jennifer Holt<\/strong>\u00a0is exhibiting\u00a0<em>Untitled<\/em>; her piece\u00a0<em>Float Version 3<\/em>\u00a0was awarded first place. Ceramics assistant professor\u00a0<strong>Steven Schaeffer<\/strong>\u00a0has pieces\u00a0<em>Crynoid<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Latitude<\/em>\u00a0in the exhibition. Alumnae\u00a0<strong>Rebecca Rands Eisenhauer\u00a0<\/strong>has a piece titled\u00a0<em>Spirits of Nature in Three Aspects<\/em>, and\u00a0<strong>Heidi Kreitchet\u00a0<\/strong>also has her piece,\u00a0<em>Tchotchka<\/em>, in the exhibition. The exhibition run until Nov. 23.
