The eight-minute video, titled\u00a0<em>The Forest for the Trees,\u00a0<\/em>can be viewed\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/video.nytimes.com\/video\/2011\/10\/01\/science\/100000001071584\/the-forest-for-the-trees.html\">online.<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Bruce M. Sullivan<\/strong>, professor of religious studies, published\u00a0a chapter\u00a0titled \u201cExperiencing Sanskrit Dramas in Kerala: Epic Performances and Performers,\u201d in the volume\u00a0<em>Studying Hinduism in Practice<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Jim Wilce<\/strong>, professor of anthropology, published the article, &#8220;Sacred Psychotherapy in the &#8216;Age of Authenticity&#8217;: Healing and Cultural Revivalism in Contemporary Finland,&#8221; in the open source journal,\u00a0<em>Religions<\/em>. The article may be viewed\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mdpi.com\/2077-1444\/2\/4\/566\/\">here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Jessalyn\u00a0Carpino<\/strong>, junior art education major, has been named by the Arizona Art Education Association as the state\u2019s Outstanding Higher Education Student of the Year.\u00a0Carpino serves as president of the\u00a0NAU student chapter of the National Art Education Association, has been published in\u00a0<em>School Arts<\/em>, a national art education trade magazine, and will be studying abroad in Vienna next summer prior to student teaching in Arizona. The article, &#8220;Wood Firing in the USA,&#8221;\u00a0is based on a paper that Hess delivered at the First European Wood Fire Conference in Brollin, Germany, last fall.\u00a0<strong>Steve Schaeffer<\/strong>, assistant professor of practice, and Hess have images of their work included in the article.Hess recently won the Director&#8217;s Award for Form and Function in the 19th Annual Strictly Functional Pottery National in Lancaster, Pa., for his pieces\u00a0<em>Bottles and Caps<\/em>.\u00a0Hess also won first place in The Barrett Clay Works third National Cup Show in Poughkeepsie, NY, for his entry,\u00a0<em>Three Tumbers<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>Two graduate students from NAU\u2019s master&#8217;s program in creative writing recently had their works published.\u00a0<strong>Brian Anderson&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>story, \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.prickofthespindle.com\/nonfiction\/5.3\/anderson\/sprinkler.htm\">Sprinkler Hose: Something Something Something Phallus Joke<\/a>,\u201d appeared in this issue of\u00a0<em>Prick of the Spindle<\/em>.\u00a0<strong>Ben McClendon&#8217;s<\/strong>\u00a0poem,\u00a0<em>Jimmy<\/em>, was a finalist for the\u00a0<em>Indiana Review<\/em>\u00a02011 1\/2 K prize and will be published in an upcoming issue of the\u00a0<em>Indiana Review<\/em>. Program graduate\u00a0<strong>Nick Kraft&#8217;s<\/strong>\u00a0story &#8220;Trawler&#8221; was published by\u00a0<em>Lark&#8217;s Fiction Magazine<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lindsey Blum\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Julie Murphy<\/strong>, undergraduate students in construction management, were selected to attend the Women&#8217;s Construction Leadership Seminar hosted by the Kiewitt Corporation in Omaha next month. Only 50 female students are chosen each year for the all-expense paid opportunity to attend the seminar that brings in top construction, mining and engineering companies from around the world.<\/li>\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-7080\" title=\"peerjackspot\" src=\"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/peerjackspot.jpg\" alt=\"Peer Jacks\" width=\"400\" height=\"238\" srcset=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2011\/10\/peerjackspot.jpg 400w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2011\/10\/peerjackspot-300x178.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/>More than 40 members of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/home.nau.edu\/edsup\/slc\/peer\/\">Peer Jacks<\/a>\u00a0teamed up with the city of Flagstaff to help clean up one of the trails in the Flagstaff Urban Trail System on NAU&#8217;s south campus.
