Youth, adults, and professionals can delve into non-credit courses for personal enrichment or professional development. Courses begin in June and July. From the Young Author\u2019s Day Camp to Data Analytics and Data-Driven Decisions for Everyone and Intro to Brewing Science, it\u2019s fun and easy to learn something new at NAU this summer.<\/p>\n
This summer, NAU Continuing Education is offering exciting non-credit courses to help you learn more about the topics that interest you or your family. Also offered are specialized training programs for engineering and emergency management professionals. For more information, visit catalog.ce.nau.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n Summer youth programs<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n Course title: Making Your Own Journals and Creative Books<\/strong><\/p>\n Dates: July 17-20 Recommended ages: 12-16 years<\/p>\n Create your own handcrafted books and journals in our day camp while learning the basics of bookmaking from cover to cover, including paper types, tools, and binding techniques. During the camp, you will explore both traditional and innovative bookmaking methods as you produce several journals, notebooks, or sketchbooks. Most supplies are included, but please bring a pencil, a large Sharpie, and a 10×14 sketchbook.<\/p>\n Course title: Young Authors\u2019 Day Camp<\/strong><\/p>\n Dates: July 10-13 Explore your artistic self through creative writing during this week-long day camp. Discover the power of words and how they can be used to shape worlds, both imagined and real. You\u2019ll focus on poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction. Young authors will experience daily writing prompts designed to spark creativity, campus-oriented field trips, a zine-making workshop, group writing discussions, and writing techniques such as six-word stories, ballads, found poetry, and microblogs.<\/p>\n Adult courses<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n Dates: July 8 Create your own handcrafted books and journals in our 1-day workshop while learning about the basics of bookmaking from cover to cover, including paper types, tools, and binding techniques. Discover the fundamental science behind beer production, fermentation, and brewing microbiology.<\/p>\n Course title: <\/strong>Computer Skills for the Workplace<\/strong><\/p>\n Dates: July 13 \u2013 August 17 This course will help job seekers and experienced professionals in any field refresh and expand their basic computer skills. Get comfortable with your computer while exploring input, processing, and output; utilizing portable and cloud storage solutions to take your work with you; and navigating the Microsoft Windows operating system with ease. In this course, you will also practice using the Microsoft Office Suite\u2014including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook\u2014in a professional context to prepare for a career in any digital workplace.<\/p>\n Course title: 3D Printing Level 1 Workshop<\/strong><\/p>\n Dates: July 17-27, including the weekend Join our non-credit Level 1 3D Printing Workshop for a unique experience in state-of-the-art software in computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM), and in general manufacturing and 3D printing\/additive manufacturing-specific techniques. The non-credit micro-credential and certificate will take two weeks to complete. Participants will spend one week on their own learning the fundamentals in an online course and one week on campus within our computer labs and IDEA lab.<\/p>\n For the first half of the in-person workshop, participants will begin learning computer-aided design via a software package and the fundamentals of engineering graphics specific to mechanical design. Then, participants will learn about various manufacturing techniques (including 3D printing) to properly select the appropriate processes for manufacturing solutions. Finally, participants will finish the certification by gaining more 3D printing-specific CAD-CAM knowledge, practicing printing parts on machines at NAU, and ultimately generating a solution to a real-world problem of their own!<\/p>\n The audience for this program will be those seeking professional development hours that do not have a mechanical engineering background, K-12 educators looking to expand their capabilities in the K-12 engineering course offerings, students on the NAU campus (and extended campuses), students who aren\u2019t fully committed to a degree program, hobbyists trying to hone their skills, and\/or continuing education knowledge seekers.<\/p>\n Course title: <\/strong>Data Analytics and Data-Driven Decisions for Everyone Learn how to employ analytics for making data-driven decisions in business. Course topics include decision science analysis techniques such as linear programming, break-even analysis, and cross-over analysis, among others.
