Applications are open for Northern Arizona University\u2019s 11th<\/sup> annual\u00a0Indigenous Youth Media Workshop to all students currently in grades 8-12, with preference given to Native American high school juniors and seniors.<\/span><\/p>\n

This year\u2019s workshop will be held from June 25 through July 1. Students will live on the NAU campus and learn how to tell stories using the creative skills of digital filmmaking, photography, audio production and broadcast journalism. The workshop concludes with a live student-produced newscast in NAU\u2019s three-camera high-definition TV studio.

<\/span>The workshop also will include a Broadcast and Media Career Fair, where students will learn about internships and career opportunities from Arizona broadcast and media professionals.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tuition is $50. Full scholarships are available.<\/span><\/p>\n

Encouraging Native American and other high school students to work together to tell the stories that are most important to them and their communities, this workshop was the vision of the late Andy<\/span> Harvey<\/span>, who told stories important to him at \u200bKPNX 12News\u200b in Phoenix. His hope was that the next generation would take up the torch and be the storytellers of their communities. At the workshop named in his honor, students tell stories important to them, with this year focused on sports, arts and entertainment, education, environment and technology.<\/span><\/p>\n

Beginning in 2012, the workshop is supported by the TEGNA Foundation\/Channel 12 KPNX, Dow Jones News Fund, Arizona Broadcasters Association, Hearst Foundation, Scripps Foundation, Native Public Media, KTNN Radio, NAU President\u2019s Office, NAU Economic Policy Institute and NAU School of Communication.

Applications close on April 17.<\/span><\/p>\n
