{"id":67059,"date":"2022-10-06T09:48:04","date_gmt":"2022-10-06T16:48:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/?p=67059"},"modified":"2022-10-06T17:00:16","modified_gmt":"2022-10-07T00:00:16","slug":"voytek-homecoming-dedicatee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/voytek-homecoming-dedicatee\/","title":{"rendered":"Alicia Voytek named 2022 Homecoming Dedicatee!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Alicia Voytek<\/strong> stood at the front of the room, presenting to a group of 30 campus living staff at the team\u2019s weekly initiatives meeting when she was abruptly interrupted.<\/p>\n<p>A group of 10 people\u2014made up of students and staff waving blue and gold pompoms and cheering loudly\u2014marched in, carrying boxes of donuts and wearing buttons with Voytek\u2019s face on them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUm. What\u2019s happening?\u201d she asked.<\/p>\n<p>The intruders circled around her, and Voytek\u2019s eyes began to well up as she realized the cause for the unannounced parade: she was this year\u2019s Homecoming dedicatee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery year, the student organizations select one person to honor for Homecoming. This year, they have chosen Alicia Voytek!\u201d <strong>Michelle Gardner<\/strong>, director of Student Life Experience who organizes the dedicatee tapping, announced to the group. \u201cThose student organizations identify and vote on a staff or faculty member who has been highly influential on campus and who has worked on campus for at least 10 years. This honor recognizes his or her many contributions to the university and the vital role they play in this institution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Everyone clapped and cheered and showered Voytek with hugs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is crazy,\u201d Voytek said, wiping away tears. \u201cI am so overwhelmed. I feel so undeserving, but I am beyond appreciative. This truly<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-67077\" src=\"http:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/wordpresst\/uploads\/sites\/153\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/NAU_HC_DED-3236.jpg\" alt=\"Alicia Voytek smiles at the camera\" width=\"363\" height=\"242\" srcset=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2022\/10\/NAU_HC_DED-3236.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2022\/10\/NAU_HC_DED-3236-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2022\/10\/NAU_HC_DED-3236-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 363px) 100vw, 363px\" \/> is such an honor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Voytek, associate vice president of campus operations, has worked at NAU for 27 years. In her time, she has served in a number of residence life capacities\u2014from a residence hall director for McConnell Hall to director of university housing\u2014and has been committed to student success as a leader of campus living and as a positive change maker.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am thrilled to see Alicia named as this year\u2019s Homecoming dedicatee. The fact that students have identified Alicia for this honor tells me that her tireless efforts to hear students and take action to build an inclusive and dedicated Campus Living team to support residents really resonates with the student body,\u201d said <strong>Margot Staltonstall<\/strong>, vice president of student affairs, who was in attendance at the tapping. \u201cAlicia is attuned to students and responsive, logging endless hours listening and collaboratively finding creative solutions. She is driven to find ways to move forward that includes multiple perspectives and does not settle for the path of least resistance. Alicia inspires us all as leaders to stay the course and reach for the best for our students and staff.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As part of her dedicatee duties, Voytek will serve as a judge for the chili cookoff, ride in the Homecoming parade, be honored at the football game and attend this year\u2019s dedicatee banquet on Nov. 2 in her honor. <a href=\"https:\/\/foundation.nau.edu\/eventregistration.aspx?evt=877\">RSVP for the free banquet online.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlicia has a genuine care for the well-being and success of the students at NAU.
