National <\/span>Hispanic, Latin\u00e9 Heritage month<\/span><\/a> is celebrated every year from Sept.<\/span> 15 through Oct.15. This month-long celebration traditionally honors the culture, history and contributions of the Hispanic and Latin\u00e9 communities.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI love Hispanic Heritage Month,\u201d said<\/span> Erik Perez<\/span><\/b>, president of the Latin\u00e9 Student Union (LSU) at NAU. \u201cIt makes me feel like my people get recognized for all the things we bring to this country<\/span>;<\/span>,<\/span> between migrant workers providing all the food at our tables to community leaders that motivate us to shoot for the stars.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

LSU\u2019s mission on campus is to promote, amplify and celebrate the Hispanic and Latin\u00e9\u00a0 students by allowing them to come together and embrace unity.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAs a first-generation college student and American, I still feel a deep connection to my roots,\u201d Perez said. \u201cMy parents came to this country with nothing and gave me everything. This is a story that many of my friends share. It’s a connection that makes us admire our culture that much more. Hispanic Heritage Month is our time to show off the \u2018cultura\u2019 that we are so proud to be a part of!”<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Beginning Sept. 15, Northern Arizona University is celebrating Hispanic, Latin\u00e9 heritage with a variety of events hosted by NAU\u2019s Office of Inclusion (IMQ)<\/span>, Ethnic Studies and other groups<\/span>. Through these events, NAU strives to honor the culture, history and diversity of individuals in the Latin\u00e9 community.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sept. 15 to Oct. 15<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

IMQ\u2019s second annual \u201cLibrito\u201d\u00a0 (Little Book) Drive and Book Giveaway<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Donations can be dropped off in the Office of Inclusion (Bldg<\/span>.<\/span> 30<\/span>,<\/span> Room 134 and 135). The book drive will last from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
