She discussed her research on the Bloomberg Terminal.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Steve Tegler<\/strong>, professor in the Department of Astronomy and Planetary Science, was awarded $50,000 from the NAU\/TRIF\/REAP program to bring the thin film station in the Astrophysical Materials Lab online. <strong>Mark Salvatore<\/strong>, associate professor of the Department of Astronomy and Planetary Science, was awarded $20,000 from the NAU\/TRIF\/S-REAP program to build the Planetary Environmental Research Chamber (PERCh).<\/li>\n<li>Undergraduate student <strong>Beau Prince<\/strong> and <strong>Mark Loeffler<\/strong>, associate professor in the Department of Astronomy and Planetary Science, recently authored an article titled \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S0019103522000033\">A possible explanation for the blue spectral slope observed on B-type asteroids.<\/a>\u201d This article shows that the blue spectral slope on these types of asteroids could simply be a consequence of the presence of micron-size dark material that will be mixed in the surface regolith.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lucas McClure<\/strong>, a Ph.D. student in astronomy, is the primary author of two recently published articles. The papers reassess calibrations for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S001910352200029X\">determining asteroid mineralogy from spectra<\/a>, then applies new calibrations to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S0019103522000653\">archives spectra of S-complex asteroids<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"search-results-excerpt-link\" href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/in-the-spotlight-feb-21-25\/\">Kudos to these faculty, staff, students and programs Do you have a spotlight item to share with the NAU community?
