Black History Month is an opportunity to honor and celebrate the contributions African Americans have made to society while raising awareness of their struggles of the past and present. Throughout the month of February, NAU is providing historical facts about the Black experience as it relates to American history that must be central to any true study of our country.

“This is an important lesson not only for those who identify as Black/African American but for all,” Tease said. “The history of Black/African American people and the influence Black/African American culture has had on this nation are not easily told and should not be contained within 28 days. This should always be considered and understood. Black/African American history speaks to the importance of not only recognizing the multicultural diversity of America but the inclusive nature within representation of all who make this country great. As we celebrate Black History Month, we must remember that throughout American history, there were and are Black/African American people who helped to make the United States a better, more just and freer nation. The fight is not over as the Black/African American story continues to be written.”

The schedule of events for Black History Month is below. Events marked with an asterisk (*) are hosted by IMQ.

IMQ Social Media Takeover

Throughout the month of February, IMQ will be highlighting notable figures of Black History on our social media pages.
