Though the university is officially closed for the holiday, the Office of Inclusion invites folks to events that strive to recognize and emulate the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Martin Tease<\/strong>, coordinator in IMQ and Diversity Fellow, is lead on the events that begin 10 a.m. Monday. The theme of the event is A Call to Action: &#8220;Awakening from the Dream.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/wordpresst\/uploads\/sites\/153\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Martin-Luther-King-Day-2022-.pdf\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-65099\" src=\"http:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/wordpresst\/uploads\/sites\/153\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Martin-Luther-King-Day-2022-1-663x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"499\" height=\"770\" srcset=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2022\/01\/Martin-Luther-King-Day-2022-1-663x1024.jpg 663w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2022\/01\/Martin-Luther-King-Day-2022-1-194x300.jpg 194w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2022\/01\/Martin-Luther-King-Day-2022-1-768x1187.jpg 768w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2022\/01\/Martin-Luther-King-Day-2022-1-994x1536.jpg 994w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2022\/01\/Martin-Luther-King-Day-2022-1-1325x2048.jpg 1325w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 499px) 100vw, 499px\" \/><\/a>\u201cRemembered on this holiday and throughout the year, the annual celebration is a special event remembering Martin Luther King, Jr\u2019s peaceful activism, call for social justice and leadership,\u201d Tease said.<\/p>\n<p>The celebration, which will include musical performances and a speech from President <strong>Jos\u00e9 Luis Cruz Rivera<\/strong>, begins in the du Bois Ballroom and will be followed by a march and day of service on campus and throughout the Flagstaff community. Masks will be required for in-person attendees. The morning celebration will be offered in a hybrid format. If you would like to join virtually, email <a href=\"mailto:Inclusion@nau.edu\">Inclusion@nau.edu<\/a> with your name and email address to receive the Zoom information.<\/p>\n<p>After the commemorative march from the du Bois Center to the Office of Inclusion, participants can participate from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the Day of Service at four locations throughout the city. Options for volunteering include the Murdoch Community Center, Flagstaff Family Food Center, Sunshine Rescue Mission and Hope Cottage. Transportation will be provided for those who need it during service hours.<\/p>\n<p>Participants will be asked to register for volunteer activities. For those who may not be able to attend, donations of nonperishable food items can be delivered to Louie\u2019s Cupboard to support the campus community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe invite you to join us and hope that that this year\u2019s program, inspired by Dr. King\u2019s life and legacy, provides opportunities for learning, for reflection, for hope and for unity,\u201d Tease said.<\/p>\n<p>For those joining in-person, attendance may be limited and masks and physical distancing will be required throughout the duration of the event.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"search-results-excerpt-link\" href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/mlk-2022\/\">Northern Arizona University will host its annual MLK Celebration and Day of Service on Jan. 17.
