It has been a productive day with our colleagues\u00a0from NAU,\u00a0UArizona, ASU and ABOR. I look forward to sharing more information in my next update. This work is closely linked to our roadmap and our mission at NAU, which helps provide context and peer information to support our efforts.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233279&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\"> I was honored to have been reelected to serve as Chair of the Board of Directors of The Education Trust.<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"-\" data-font=\"Times New Roman\" data-listid=\"1\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"8\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In a\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/view.s7.exacttarget.com\/?qs=de98a5696de527f22b88ae9936a5e07eed86f900b1748153ca99e275b742a446cefe0924ae2b8e478e8f1d1fd277195c65711b2f354e4feeff11d14bfc4cf760e8934eddc01e049aba05656b00de260b\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">letter on Friday to our NAU community<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0I reflected on the work of the Strategic Roadmap thus far, what we learned from our productive first phase of engagement and what you can expect as we prepare to launch Draft #2 next week. I encourage you to review this information and engage\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0ongoing\u00a0process.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233279&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"-\" data-font=\"Times New Roman\" data-listid=\"1\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"8\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">I had an engaging series of meetings\u00a0on Friday, including with\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NAUPresident\/status\/1454172293769269257\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Coconino County\u00a0Supervisor Patrice Horstman<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NAUPresident\/status\/1454233432133750791\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Flagstaff City\u00a0Councilmember Austin Aslan<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, the president of the <a title=\"https:\/\/aplu.org\/\" contenteditable=\"false\" href=\"https:\/\/aplu.org\/\">American Association of Public and Land-grant Universities<\/a>, and the president and vice president of NAU\u2019s Staff Advisory Council. While each had very different topics, I am encouraged by the spirit of collaboration and the sense of shared purpose in our work ahead as a partner with our staff, community, region and national peers.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233279&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"-\" data-font=\"Times New Roman\" data-listid=\"1\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"8\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">I also had an important\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NAUPresident\/status\/1454237642090942468\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">roundtable conversation with our Black\/African American faculty and staff<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, which focused on our efforts to live our commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and justice and the important steps we must take in our\u00a0practices with students, faculty and staff to support diversity on campus and in our communities. We have accomplished much already, but these conversations inspire me\u00a0as\u00a0we\u00a0continue the important work before us.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233279&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"-\" data-font=\"Times New Roman\" data-listid=\"1\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"8\" data-aria-level=\"1\">In addition, I participated in an unveiling of the National Postsecondary Value Commission\u2019s Equitable Value Explorer tool, highlighted recently by <a title=\"https:\/\/www.insidehighered.com\/news\/2021\/11\/04\/gates-foundation-effort-releases-new-tool-compare-colleges?utm_source=Inside+Higher+Ed&amp;utm_campaign=17e524bdb2-DNU_2021_COPY_02&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_term=0_1fcbc04421-17e524bdb2-198975585&amp;mc_cid=17e524bdb2&amp;mc_eid=29c787ef36\" contenteditable=\"false\" href=\"https:\/\/www.insidehighered.com\/news\/2021\/11\/04\/gates-foundation-effort-releases-new-tool-compare-colleges?utm_source=Inside+Higher+Ed&amp;utm_campaign=17e524bdb2-DNU_2021_COPY_02&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_term=0_1fcbc04421-17e524bdb2-198975585&amp;mc_cid=17e524bdb2&amp;mc_eid=29c787ef36\">Inside Higher Ed<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"-\" data-font=\"Times New Roman\" data-listid=\"1\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"8\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">I had planned to spend\u00a0Monday\u00a0with colleagues from the Big Sky Presidents\u2019 Council, but delayed flights cancelled those plans.\u00a0Fortunately, I was able to join via Zoom.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233279&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"-\" data-font=\"Times New Roman\" data-listid=\"1\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"8\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In addition, I had an impromptu visit with\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NAUPresident\/status\/1455323540689854464\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez at the Native American Cultural Center<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. It was a special opportunity to visit, especially at the beginning of <a href=\"https:\/\/view.s7.exacttarget.com\/?qs=1cc6d61998fbafb8a9f2ff1e16c22a5ca123740ac2ebaca75bfe63895485319b626bb833ebc17575466b20637366806e52968afa37e7b9ce1c6707275de73490e32212f48270759fe3627f2e635f9bae\">Native American Heritage Month<\/a>.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233279&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"-\" data-font=\"Times New Roman\" data-listid=\"1\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"8\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">I am looking forward to kicking off our United Way of Northern Arizona campaign at NAU\u00a0and\u00a0will be sharing more information soon. I had an excellent meeting and am planning a special challenge to encourage support for this cause, which\u00a0gives so much to our region and our communities. It was a tremendous opportunity to speak to the challenges and opportunities ahead, share best practices from my work and experiences\u2014which inform our work at NAU\u2014\u00a0and hear from colleagues,\u00a0who posed important questions about\u00a0how we can move the needle in advancing access, attainment, and transformative postgraduate outcomes for our students.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233279&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"-\" data-font=\"Times New Roman\" data-listid=\"1\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"8\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">A special highlight was raised to my attention with the great work of\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/energy-awards\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">two NAU Ph.D. students<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0being highlighted by the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.energy.gov\/science\/office-science\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">U.S. Department of Energy<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0for receiving\u00a0prestigious graduate research awards.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233279&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"-\" data-font=\"Times New Roman\" data-listid=\"1\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"8\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">I enjoyed meeting with our partners from the Air Force Research Laboratory, Lockheed Martin, and Crossbar, who were visiting campus for a review of our\u00a0cutting-edge\u00a0cybersecurity program computational diversity for cyber security.\u00a0The close connections with government and industry with\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">School of Informatics, Computing, and Cyber Systems<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0is important in our research and educational missions. Our students are exposed to the leading edge of discovery in a crucial field and are educated in a sector where demand\u00a0for an innovative and experienced workforce\u00a0continues to grow.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233279&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"-\" data-font=\"Times New Roman\" data-listid=\"1\" aria-setsize=\"-1\" data-aria-posinset=\"8\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Finally, yesterday concluded with a truly special celebratory event:\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NAUPresident\/status\/1456083396703055875\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">the naming of the Clara M. Lovett Art Museum<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0and an opportunity to honor Dr. Clara Lovett, the 13<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">th<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> president of NAU. She served as NAU\u2019s\u2014and the Arizona system\u2019s\u2014first woman president, leaving a legacy of institutional advancement and modernization and advocacy for the arts. It was a privilege to recognize Dr. Lovett by naming the museum in her honor and to join so many members of our NAU and Flagstaff community in recognizing an amazing Lumberjack.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Thank you for reading.
