The team includes <strong>Pradeep Dass<\/strong>, chair of the Department of STEM Education, <strong>Carson Pete<\/strong>, lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, <strong>Fethiye Ozis<\/strong>, senior lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering, Construction Management, and Environmental Engineering, and <strong>Kyle Winfree<\/strong>, associate professor in the School of Informatics, Computing, and Cyber Systems. The grant of approximately $1.5 million will provide scholarships to 36 full-time students over a six-year period.<\/li>\n<li><strong>NAU<\/strong> has been recognized as one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/abound.college\/gradschool\/top-grad-schools\/\">Abound\u2019s 2021 Top Grad School Programs<\/a>, which recognizes universities that provide the essential needs of non-traditional students.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Xanthe Walker<\/strong>, assistant research professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, <strong>Melissa Boyd<\/strong>, research assistant in the Center for Ecosystem Science and Society, <strong>Michelle Mack<\/strong>, Regents\u2019 professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, and <strong>Logan Berner<\/strong>, assistant research professor in the School of Informatics, Computing, and Cyber Systems, co-authored the study \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/cdnsciencepub.com\/doi\/10.1139\/cjfr-2020-0466\">Positive response of tree productivity to warming is reversed by increased tree density at the Arctic tundra-taiga ecotone<\/a>\u201d which was published in the latest issue of the Canadian Journal of Forest Research.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Gina Dittmann<\/strong>, sophomore on the NAU women\u2019s tennis team, has been selected to compete at the ITA Women\u2019s All-American Championships.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Naoko Taguchi<\/strong>, professor in the Department of English, published a special issue with Modern Language Journal titled \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/toc\/15404781\/2021\/105\/3\">Learning and Teaching Pragmatics in the Globalized World.<\/a>\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Jut Wynne<\/strong>, assistant research professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, and five co-authors including and <strong>Derek Sonderegger<\/strong>, formerly an associate professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, authored a paper titled \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdpi.com\/2072-4292\/13\/18\/3578?fbclid=IwAR2roQri5fGA5FoXwBshiTvqjW2fu_bwxdkG2BKxKI5qUBWCjmymBgWLNkw\">Advancing Cave Detection using Terrain Analysis and Thermal Imagery<\/a>\u201d which was published in the journal Remote Sensing.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The Sustainable Community Program<\/strong> was recently awarded $25,000 in grant funding from SEDI. The grant will be used to continue the Rural Foods Pathways Project, which seeks to improve food systems and food access in northern Arizona.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Diana Stuart<\/strong>, associate professor in the Department of Sustainable Communities, recently authored the book \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/politybooks.com\/bookdetail\/?isbn=9781509544387&amp;subject_id=1\">What is Environmental Sociology?<\/a>\u201d The book introduces environmental sociology using a variety of theoretical approaches and research methods.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"search-results-excerpt-link\" href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/in-the-spotlight-sept-13-17\/\">Kudos to these faculty, staff, students and programs Do you have a spotlight item to share with the NAU community?
