Pre-law degrees provide a base of knowledge for students and teach them how to critically think, write and develop research skills geared towards a profession that serves both people and institutions.<\/li>\n<li>NAU also was ranked on Bachelor\u2019s Degree Center\u2019s list of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bachelorsdegreecenter.org\/best-online-public-health-degrees\/\">15 Best Online Bachelor\u2019s In Public Health for 2021<\/a>. Rankings were determined by tuition rate, student satisfaction and graduate salary data collected from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System and Niche.<\/li>\n<li>The NAU <strong>Geospatial Research and Information<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>lab<\/strong> created a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arcgis.com\/home\/webscene\/viewer.html?webscene=c0370c01b1cb42b4b82a665e1d5f4c48&amp;viewpoint=cam:-112.01245789,34.27091685,41427.943;10.755,62.195\">visualization app<\/a> to monitor the activity and progress of the fires near Flagstaff. The app examines the growth, advancement and active hot spots of the Rafael Fire southwest of Flagstaff.<\/li>\n<li>From the Center for Science Teaching and Learning, director <strong>Jo\u00eblle Clark<\/strong>, assistant director <strong>Nena Bloom<\/strong>, research associate <strong>Lori Rubino-Hare<\/strong>, alumna <strong>Courtney Barnes<\/strong> and research associate <strong>Sean Ryan<\/strong> co-authored the article, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.niost.org\/Afterschool-Matters-Spring-2021\/designing-professional-development-resources-to-meet-the-needs-of-ost-stem-educators\">Designing Professional Development Resources to Meet the Needs of OST STEM Educators<\/a>\u201d published in Afterschool Matters. The article is based on their work in the NASA-funded <a href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/planets-project-grant\/#.YNPg9OhKg2w\">PLANETS program<\/a> in which they developed out-of-school time curricula on planetary sciences and engineering for educators and youth.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Charn McAllister<\/strong>, assistant professor of management in the W.A. Franke College of Business, co-authored the article, &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/sloanreview.mit.edu\/article\/why-pivoting-people-is-a-strategic-priority\/\">Why Pivoting People is a Strategic Priority<\/a>&#8221; published in the MIT Sloan Management Review. The article argued that just like post-pandemic physical workspaces will need revising, so too, will the skill sets and capabilities of employees.<\/li>\n<li>Faculty and staff from the Center for Ecosystem Science and Society have had several accomplishments.\n<ul>\n<li>Assistant research professor <strong>Christina Sch\u00e4del<\/strong>, Regents\u2019 professor <strong>Ted Schuur<\/strong> and associate professor of climate science in the School of Earth and Sustainability <strong>Deborah Huntzinger <\/strong>were awarded a three-year, $764,000 grant from the Department of Energy to help more accurately represent permafrost carbon dynamics in Earth System models. The project, for which Sch\u00e4del is the primary principal investigator, will synthesize data from pan-Arctic experimental warming studies and create new functional benchmarks for models to improve understanding of permafrost carbon\u2019s implications for climate change.<\/li>\n<li>Director and Regents\u2019 professor <strong>Bruce Hungate<\/strong> was named to the Laboratory Advisory Council of Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), a Department of Energy research center. The council plays a major role in setting the agenda for the laboratory, and provides review and input for PNNL\u2019s future direction, investment priorities and vision.<\/li>\n<li>Hungate, along with research professor <strong>Jane Marks<\/strong>, co-authored the opinion piece, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/azdailysun.com\/news\/opinion\/columnists\/coconino-voices-invest-in-infrastructure-to-help-slow-climate-change\/article_6c22c201-21b9-5d66-8f8d-3f54fe55a4d9.html#tncms-source=login\">Invest in infrastructure to help slow climate change<\/a>,\u201d which appeared in the Arizona Daily Sun. Clean energy, they write, is \u201ca win for decarbonizing: this investment will help untie the knot between CO2 emissions and a healthy economy.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Postdoctoral scholar <strong>Tim Rademacher<\/strong>, Regents\u2019 professor <strong>Andrew Richardson <\/strong>and research associate <strong>Jim LeMoine<\/strong> co-authored the article, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/epdf\/10.1111\/pce.14117\">Manipulating phloem transport affects wood formation but not local nonstructural carbon reserves in an evergreen conifer<\/a>,\u201d which appears in the recent issue of Plant, Cell &amp; Environment.
