The degree program is recognized by the International Society for Technology in Education and gives students the skills and knowledge to design both online and in-person technology-based instruction.\n<ul>\n<li>College Rank also ranked NAU No. 12 on its list of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.collegerank.net\/best-bachelors-accounting\/\">35 Best Bachelor\u2019s in Accounting<\/a>. Offered through the W.A. Franke College of Business, students take classes focused on production operations management, computer systems, strategic management and finances.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Michelle McAllister<\/strong>, assistant professor of accounting, co-authored the article, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/tax.unc.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Beasley-Goldman-Lewellen-McAllister-WP-2020.pdf\">Board Risk Oversight and Corporate Tax-Planning Practices<\/a>\u201d published in the Journal of Managerial Accounting Research. The article provides evidence that a more robust risk oversight is associated with lower tax uncertainty in conjunction with lower tax burdens and influences the firm to engage in more effective tax-planning practices.\n<ul>\n<li>Additionally, research from this article was discussed with one of McAllister\u2019s co-authors, Nathan Goldman, on the podcast \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bdo.com\/insights\/assurance\/corporate-governance\/bdo-in-the-boardroom-podcast-episode-14-how-board\">Episode 14: How Board Member Involvement Impacts Tax Risk<\/a>\u201d presented by BDO Center for Corporate Governance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Professor of applied physics and materials science <strong>Bertrand Cambou<\/strong> and graduate research student <strong>Sareh Assiri<\/strong> co-authored the article, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/dl.acm.org\/doi\/10.1145\/3412439\">Cryptography with Analog Scheme Using Memristors<\/a>\u201d published in the ACM Journal on Emerging Technologies in Computing Systems. The article addresses mainstream cryptographic schemes, characterizes memristors and investigates how different memristor cells for each message to encrypt have the potential to mitigate mainstream attacks.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Scott Goetz<\/strong>, professor in the School of Informatics, Computing, and Cyber Systems (SICCS), and <strong>Patrick Jantz<\/strong>, assistant research professor of SICCS, co-authored the article, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cell.com\/one-earth\/fulltext\/S2590-3322(20)30418-8?_returnURL=https%3A%2F%2Flinkinghub.elsevier.com%2Fretrieve%2Fpii%2FS2590332220304188%3Fshowall%3Dtrue\">Change in terrestrial human footprint drives continued loss of intact ecosystems<\/a>\u201d published in One Earth. The results of their study show an urgent need to safeguard Earth\u2019s last intact ecosystems and that greater efforts are needed to ameliorate human pressures.\n<ul>\n<li>Goetz also co-authored the article, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/science.sciencemag.org\/content\/sci\/368\/6497\/eaaz7005.full.pdf?casa_token=3hKjyF0D6HIAAAAA:GhzwFLv-8i9HOqYQy86GvV1PVpH0zgOEd2o-x12gtkst8VFBbNnVOPibpFVhuXGfTr7u4K5TLa56gxs\">Climate-driven risks to the climate mitigation potential of forests<\/a>\u201d published in Science. The study synthesizes the current understanding of climate-driven risks to forest stability from fire, drought, biotic agents and other disturbances, and reviews how efforts to use forests consider and could more fully embrace current scientific knowledge to account for these climate-driven risks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Venkata Yaramasu<\/strong>, assistant professor of SICCS, was awarded $25,000 by the Technology and Research Initiative Research Fund (TRIF) Small Research Equipment Acquisition Program for the project, \u201cData Acquisition, Control and Charging of Drones.\u201d The goal of TRIF is to stimulate Arizona\u2019s knowledge-based economy by supporting innovation, entrepreneurship, research and development and workforce development, as well as the infrastructure needed to advance in these areas.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Julie Mueller<\/strong>, lead project director and economics professor, was awarded a USDA NIFA Environmental and Resource Economics research grant for $500,000 with co-project directors <strong>Abraham Springer<\/strong>, professor in the School of Earth and Sustainability (SES), and <strong>Ryan Fitch<\/strong>, assistant professor of economics. The grant will fund two master\u2019s students for two years in SES and will incorporate non-market values of springs into rangeland management plans on the Coconino and Kaibab National Forests.<\/li>\n<li>Associate professor of politics and international affairs <strong>Sean Gregory<\/strong> co-authored the article, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/academic.oup.com\/jpubhealth\/advance-article\/doi\/10.1093\/pubmed\/fdaa159\/5901977\">Years of life lost associated with COVID-19 deaths in the United States<\/a>\u201d published in the Journal of Public Health and later covered in Forbes Magazine. The study offers new insight into the effects of COVID-19 and its results of heterogenous rates of \u201cyears of life lost\u201d by geography and gender, and highlights variation in the magnitude of the pandemic\u2019s effects that may inform effective policy responses.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Jiun-Yi Tsai<\/strong>, assistant professor of communication, was the lead author on the article, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jmir.org\/2020\/9\/e22767\/\">Intergroup Contact, COVID-19 News Consumption, and the Moderating Role of Digital Media Trust on Prejudice Toward Asians in the United States: Cross-Sectional Study<\/a>\u201d published in the Journal of Medical Internet Research.
