Beier\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/tvnz.co.nz\/breakfast-news\/conservation-conference-marine-threat-video-4589590\">appeared on TVNZ<\/a>\u00a0discussing biodiversity, the conference and what has been done in 25 years of conservation work.\u00a0He also\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.3news.co.nz\/DOC-workers-an-invaluable-asset-to-NZ---scientist\/tabid\/1216\/articleID\/235724\/Default.aspx\">appeared on TV3<\/a>\u00a0to talk about conservation and New Zealand\u00a0politics.<\/li>\n<li>Twenty seniors from the Orme School in Orme, Ariz., toured sustainability features on the NAU campus last week and met with undergraduate and graduate engineering students to learn about their research. The students are performing a senior capstone project at Orme to design a sustainable building for their school and learned about NAU\u2019s renewable energy installations, including an off-grid teaching lab, a Skystream turbine at the Applied Research and Development building and photovoltaic and solar thermal installations on several LEED-certified buildings on campus. They also saw campus energy and transportation efficiency improvements and dined at the Green Scene Caf\u00e9, a student-led sustainability initiative in the Health and Learning Center. The Orme School is a partner in the\u00a0<a title=\"Grant helps NAU spread word of wind power across Arizona\" href=\"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/grant-helps-nau-spread-word-of-wind-power-across-arizona\/\"><strong>Arizona Wind for Schools project<\/strong><\/a>, which installed a 2.4-kilowatt-hour wind turbine on the Orme campus and taught wind-energy lessons and activities in each of the school\u2019s science classes.<\/li>\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-6039\" title=\"german\" src=\"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/german.jpg\" alt=\"German Club\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" srcset=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2012\/11\/german.jpg 400w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2012\/11\/german-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/>As part of Discover Languages Month, members of the German Club, along with German faculty and German study abroad students, recently posed in front of a piece of the Berlin Wall on display at NAU. Discover Languages Month is a national campaign developed by the\u00a0American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages\u00a0to raise awareness about the cognitive, academic, social, cultural and economic benefits that language learning provides.
