This year\u2019s symposium took place in a virtual format and <a href=\"https:\/\/nau.edu\/undergraduate-research\/undergraduate-symposium\/\">presentations from the week can be viewed online<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/nau.edu\/cefns\">College of Environment, Forestry, and Natural Sciences (CEFNS)<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/nau.edu\/ceias\/\">College of Engineering, Informatics, and Applied Sciences (CEIAS)<\/a> presented specific awards to their participants. Additionally, a People\u2019s Choice Award was selected for each category.<\/p>\n<p>CEFNS awarded the following for each department:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Hanna Zigo,\u00a0<\/strong><em>Investigating Potential Ancient Inverted Valley Networks on Mars,\u201d<\/em> First place award for the Department of Astronomy and Planetary Science. This award is made possible through the contribution of Henry Hooper.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lauren Mason-Sarantopulos<\/strong> and <strong>Joshua Rihs, <\/strong><em>\u201cEffects of Elevated Water Temperature on Growth, Reproduction, and Survival Across Generations of Native Amphipods in Northern Arizona.\u201d <\/em>Department of Biological Science. This award is made possible through the contribution of the Craig Family Elevate Award for Sciences.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mitchell Bryant, &#8220;<\/strong><em>Molecular Methods to Reveal the Success of Gene Editing,\u201d <\/em>Second Place Award for the Department of Biological Science. This award is made possible through the contribution of the Craig Family Elevate Award for Sciences.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lora Verslius, <\/strong>\u201c<em>An important opportunistic pathogen for cystic fibrosis patients, Burkholderia vietnamiensis, appears common in the environment of the southern US,\u201d <\/em>third place award for the Department of Biological Science. This award is made possible through the contribution of the Craig Family Elevate Award for Sciences<\/li>\n<li><strong>Joseph Espinoza, <\/strong><em>\u201c<\/em>Presence of Neurotoxic Metals in Pesticides and Potential Adverse Health Effects in Agricultural Workers in Yuma County,<em>\u201d\u00a0<\/em>First Place Award for the Department of Biological Science-Exercise Science. This award is made possible through the contributions of the Begovac Experiment Award in Recognition of Outstanding Pursuit of New Knowledge Through Experimentation.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Kelsey Garden<\/strong> and <strong>Alujjage Anuththara, <\/strong><em>\u201cExploring Structure-Function Relationships: The Impact of Polymer Electrolyte Ordering on Ionic Conductivity,\u201d <\/em>First Place Award for the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. This award is made possible through the contribution of the Begovac Experiment Award in Recognition of Outstanding Pursuit of New Knowledge Through Experimentation<\/li>\n<li><strong>Chloe Frechette,\u00a0<\/strong><em>\u201cSylver Coinage Digraph Analysis,\u201d <\/em>First Place Award for the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. This award is made possible through the contributions of the Begovac Experiment Award in Recognition of Outstanding Pursuit of New Knowledge Through Experimentation<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cameron Chacon,\u00a0<\/strong><em>\u201cGeohazard of a Potential Rim Collapse at Devils Kitchen: Risk to Visitors at an Active Sinkhole In Sedona, Northern Arizona,\u201d <\/em>First Place Award for the School of Earth and Sustainability-Geology. This award is made possible through the contributions of the Begovac Experiment Award in Recognition of Outstanding Pursuit of New Knowledge Through Experimentation<\/li>\n<li><strong>Jordyn Williamson,\u00a0<\/strong><em>\u201cThe potential impacts of a temperature control device on the reintroduction of Colorado pikeminnow in Grand Canyon: A literature review,\u201d <\/em>First Place Award for the School of Earth and Sustainability-Environmental Studies.\u00a0This award is made possible through the contributions of the Begovac Experiment Award in Recognition of Outstanding Pursuit of New Knowledge Through Experimentation<\/li>\n<li><strong>Casey Hensen,\u00a0<\/strong><em>\u201cExploring the novel use of soil biota to germinate the Las Vegas bear poppy,\u201d <\/em>First Place Award for the. School of Forestry.
