{"id":59673,"date":"2020-05-05T16:56:32","date_gmt":"2020-05-05T23:56:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/?p=59673"},"modified":"2020-05-08T10:03:55","modified_gmt":"2020-05-08T17:03:55","slug":"may-2020-commencement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/may-2020-commencement\/","title":{"rendered":"NAU celebrating record-setting Class of 2020 on Friday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Northern Arizona University\u2019s largest graduating class will celebrate with a virtual commencement on Friday, May 8.<\/p>\n<p>About 6,000 students have applied to graduate this semester.<\/p>\n<p>Because of COVID-19, NAU is hosting a virtual ceremony; it will be available at 11 a.m. Friday, though the link will be available via <a href=\"https:\/\/nau.edu\/commencement\/\">nau.edu\/commencement<\/a> anytime during the summer. Viewers in the first 24 hours can post using #naugrad and be featured on the commencement feed.<\/p>\n<p>Students and their families can visit <a href=\"https:\/\/nau.edu\/commencement\/\">NAU\u2019s commencement website<\/a> for the link to experience the virtual commencement, including viewing their photos on-screen and hearing their names read aloud. The site will include a message and degree conferral from President <strong>Rita Cheng<\/strong>, along with Provost <strong>Diane Stearns<\/strong> and Graduate College Dean<strong> Maribeth Watwood<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am so proud of the Class of 2020,\u201d Cheng said. \u201cThis class has achieved their aspirations and earned their degrees after years of dedication, hard work and\u2014toward the very end\u2014an unexpected time of global turmoil. It makes this achievement all the more remarkable. Our graduates are entering a new and exciting stage of life, one where they will apply the sum of their college experiences to a new career, in service to their communities and to each other.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Of the 6,000 who have applied for graduation, 915 are graduate students from NAU\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/nau.edu\/graduate-college\">67 master\u2019s programs and 24 doctoral programs<\/a>, and more than 5,000 are undergraduate students from the Flagstaff Mountain Campus, statewide locations and online, plus 66 students who enrolled in NAU\u2019s unique <a href=\"https:\/\/nau.edu\/online\/self-paced-personalized-learning\/\">Personalized Learning program<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Breakdown of graduates by college:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>College of Arts and Letters: 459<\/li>\n<li>College of Education: 686<\/li>\n<li>College of Engineering, Informatics, and Applied Sciences: 424<\/li>\n<li>College of the Environment, Forestry, and Natural Sciences: 839<\/li>\n<li>College of Health and Human Services: 912<\/li>\n<li>College of Social and Behavioral Sciences: 1,379<\/li>\n<li>Honors College: 138<\/li>\n<li>NAU Online\/Statewide: 365<\/li>\n<li>NAU Yuma: 251<\/li>\n<li>W.
