These are opportunities to learn about diverse cultural traditions and honor the contributions African-Americans have made to civilization, while raising awareness of struggles of the past and present.<\/p>\n<p>This year, special attention is drawn to honor the acclaimed director, screenwriter and producer John Singleton. He is most known for his debut film \u201cBoyz N the Hood,\u201d which came out in 1991. He was the first African-American to receive an Oscar nomination for best director. The month will screen several of his films and feature lectures and discussions that feature Black artists, poets and influencers.<\/p>\n<p>The schedule of events follows.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Feb. 4<\/strong>: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cultural Development in Black Communities Lecture, IMQ Student Center<\/p>\n<p><strong>Feb. 6<\/strong>: 6-8:30 p.m. John Singleton Tribute: \u201cBoyz N the Hood,\u201d IMQ Student Center<\/p>\n<p><strong>Feb. 10-14<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Black History Month Cultural Bites, Lunch\/Dinner at the Hot Spot\/Dub<\/li>\n<li>Love Who You Love: Inclusive Valentines, IMQ Q-Unity Center<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Feb. 12<\/strong>: 6-8:30 p.m. John Singleton Tribute: \u201cPoetic Justice,\u201d IMQ Student Center<\/p>\n<p><strong>Feb. 13<\/strong>: 5-6:30 p.m. Black Love Trivia: Game Night, IMQ Student Center<\/p>\n<p><strong>Feb. 14<\/strong>: 5:30-7:30 p.m. Love Who You Love LGBTea+, IMQ Q-Unity Center<\/p>\n<p><strong>Feb. 18<\/strong>: 6-8:30 p.m. John Singleton Tribute: \u201cSnowfall,\u201d IMQ Student Center<\/p>\n<p><strong>Feb. 20<\/strong>: 6-8 p.m. Me &amp; My Peeps Family Dinner, IMQ Student Center<\/p>\n<p><strong>Feb. 24<\/strong>: 6-8:30 p.m. John Singleton Tribute: \u201cBaby Boy,\u201d IMQ Student Center<\/p>\n<p><strong>Feb. 26<\/strong>: 2-4 p.m. Talkin While Black: Panel, IMQ Student Center<\/p>\n<p><strong>Feb. 27<\/strong>: 5-7 p.m. Tribute to Black and Queer Poets, IMQ Q-Unity Center<\/p>\n<p>The Office of Inclusion also will offer Zone trainings during February. Registration is through LOUIE Self Service &gt; Learning and Development.
