He is the defending national champion in the men\u2019s indoor mile at the NCAA Division I level. His 2020 opening race time was 4:07.15 at 7,000 feet, which converted to a time of 3:58.17 as the third-best men\u2019s mile in the country, according to Track &amp; Field Results Reporting System.<\/li>\n<li>Freshman runner <strong>Corey Gorgas<\/strong> won the men\u2019s title at the U.S.A. Track &amp; Field Cross Country Championships and is eligible for Team USATF at the Pan American Cross Country Championships in Canada. After not having raced for more than a year, he finished the Junior Men\u2019s 8K race with a time of 25:44.8.<\/li>\n<li>Senior <strong>Chiara Tomasetti<\/strong> was named Big Sky Women\u2019s Tennis Player of the Week, the eighth Player of the Week honor in her career. She won the Lumberjacks\u2019 dual match opener, 6-2 and 6-1. She is ranked No. 57 nationally.<\/li>\n<li>Four NAU football players earned Phil Steele FCS All-American Honors: junior placekicker <strong>Luis Aguilar<\/strong> (First Team), junior punter <strong>DJ Arnson<\/strong> (Third Team), senior quarterback <strong>Case Cookus<\/strong> (Fourth Team) and freshman wide receiver <strong>Hendrix Johnson<\/strong> (Freshman All-American Second Team). Phil Steele&#8217;s Big Sky All-Conference Team included nine Lumberjacks: Aguilar, Arnson, Cookus, <strong>Khalil Dorsey<\/strong>, <strong>Brandon Porter<\/strong>, <strong>Stacy Chukwumezie<\/strong>, <strong>Cole Habib<\/strong>, <strong>Joe Logan<\/strong> and <strong>Justin Hathoot<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Several students represented the Department of Astronomy and Planetary Sciences at the American Astronomical Society meeting in Hawaii.\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Brittany Harvison<\/strong> and <strong>Jacob Hyden<\/strong> presented posters on the Agnia and Massalia asteroid families. Their work was under the direction of assistant professor <strong>Cristina Thomas<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Within Ty Robinson\u2019s HABLab, doctoral student <strong>Amber Young<\/strong> presented a poster on work related to the available atmospheric Gibbs free energy as a biosignature. Doctoral student <strong>Will Oldroyd<\/strong> presented work on designing a technique to efficiently schedule observations for the astrometric determination of orbits for directly imaged exoplanets.<\/li>\n<li>Doctoral students <strong>Erin Aadland<\/strong> and <strong>Catherine Clark<\/strong> along with undergraduate student <strong>Cody Huls<\/strong> also presented at the meeting.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"search-results-excerpt-link\" href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/in-the-student-spotlight-jan-24-2020\/\">Kudos to these students Do you have a spotlight item to share with the NAU community?
