Awe\u2019s presentation was titled, \u201cWhy Western-Style Urbanism Failed to Develop in the Maya Lowlands: A Western Belize Perspective.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Melissa Sevigny <\/strong>with KNAU radio had several of her pieces featured with national news and has a few more on the horizon. She also was on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencefriday.com\/person\/melissa-sevigny\/\">Science Friday<\/a> with Ira Flatow talking about the Biosphere 2.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Institute for Human Development (IHD)<\/strong> was awarded a one-year grant totaling $99,996 from the Arizona Developmental Disabilities Planning Council to fund a pilot project focused on creating an inclusive environment on college campuses for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I\/DD). IHD executive director <strong>Kelly Roberts<\/strong> will serve as principal investigator. IHD will partner with Coconino Community College to provide new opportunities of support and development for coaches and peers working with I\/DD students that will expand the current resources available.<\/li>\n<li>Assistant professor of sociology <strong>Jielu Lin<\/strong> received the Outstanding Publication Award from the American Sociological Association\u2019s Section on Aging and the Life Course. The article, \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/academic.oup.com\/psychsocgerontology\/article\/72\/1\/168\/2632037\">From Noise to Signal: The Age and Social Patterning of Intra-Individual Variability in Late-Life Health<\/a>,\u201d was published in The Journals of Gerontology: Series B.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Andy Schrack Walters<\/strong>, professor of psychological sciences, received the <a href=\"https:\/\/nau.edu\/psychological-sciences\/dr-schrack-walters-receives-teaching-award\/\">Sexuality Educator Award<\/a> from the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists at their 51<sup>st<\/sup> annual meeting. The association is devoted to the promotion of sexual health and advancements in sexuality counseling, therapy and education.<\/li>\n<li>Associate professor of anthropology <strong>Lisa Hardy<\/strong> presented a webinar titled, \u201cTelling Our Stories: Community Engagement through Collaborative Writing,\u201d through the Office of Minority Health Research Center. The presentation benefited junior faculty and community-based organizations interested in authentic community collaboration.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ryan Heinsius <\/strong>with KNAU radio had his work \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2019\/12\/18\/788913572\/the-force-is-with-our-people-connects-indigenous-culture-to-a-galaxy-far-away\">\u2019The Force Is With Our People\u2019 Connects Indigenous Culture To A Galaxy Far Away<\/a>\u201d featured on NPR news. He looks at artist Duane Koyawena and engineer Joe Mastroianni\u2019s new piece of artwork, Hopi R2, featured at the Museum of Northern Arizona.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.intelligent.com\/best-online-military-friendly-colleges\/\">Intelligent.com<\/a> ranked Northern Arizona University No. 10 in its Top 60 Online Military Friendly Colleges list for 2020, citing NAU\u2019s online programs as the best in the Southwest<strong>. <\/strong>It also ranked NAU\u2019s master\u2019s of education in educational technology as No. 4 in its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.intelligent.com\/best-online-masters-in-adult-education-learning-degree-programs\/\">Top 30 Master\u2019s in Adult Education Learning Degree Programs<\/a> list, saying a graduate with this degree will have more job opportunities and increased earning potential.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Meredith Heller<\/strong>, lecturer in the Department of Women\u2019s and Gender Studies, published \u201cQueer Drag: Redefining the Discourse of Gender Bending.\u201d The book talks about the discourse of gender-bending and has received several significant endorsements that include Leila Rupp, a professor of feminist studies at UC Santa Barbara.<\/li>\n<li>Anthropology lecturers <strong>Emily Dale<\/strong> and <strong>Chrissina Burke<\/strong>, along with senior <strong>Rachael O\u2019Hara<\/strong> and master\u2019s students <strong>Kelsey Gruntorad<\/strong> and <strong>Megan Laurich<\/strong>, represented the anthropology department at the Society for Historical Archaeology conference. They presented research on a collection from Post-War Flagstaff and on the archaeology of St. Michael\u2019s Mission.<\/li>\n<li>Accounting professors <strong>Nancy Wilburn<\/strong> and <strong>Bob Kilpatrick<\/strong> co-authored \u201cA Mini-Course Approach to Incorporate IFRS into the Accounting Curriculum,\u201d accepted for publication in the Journal of the Academy of Business Education. This paper comes as the result of Wilburn\u2019s sabbatical where she developed a short course on the International Financial Reporting Standards, their differences from the U.S. standards and the best way to incorporate international standards into CPA exam-focused accounting curriculum in the U.S.<\/li>\n<li>Assistant professor of physical therapy and athletic training <strong>Amit Kumar<\/strong> co-authored \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/31901004\">Performance of the Functional Comorbidity Index (FCI) in prognostic models for risk adjustment in patients with back pain<\/a>.\u201d Risk adjustment methods are advanced for outpatient rehabilitation settings, using a promising alternative to traditional comorbidity indices to minimize bias when making research comparisons. The study uses a cohort of older adults with back pain using both self-reported functional status and complete electronic health record data to examine the ability of an FCI to predict function, health-related quality of life and overall health care use.<\/li>\n<li>Postdoctoral scholar of astronomy and planetary sciences <strong>Maggie McAdam<\/strong> had her proposal to observe asteroid Psyche with the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA) approved.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ty Robinson<\/strong>, assistant professor in astronomy and planetary sciences, gave two presentations on HabEx and one on his work within the HABLab at the American Astronomical Society meeting in Hawaii.
