Wilce<\/strong> served as two of the three editors for The Routledge Handbook of Language and Emotion published by Routledge, the world\u2019s leading academic publisher in the Humanities and Social Sciences. The book offers critical, theoretical and methodological perspectives about how the experience of emotion interacts with linguistic encounters. In addition to editing, chapters were written by faculty in the Department of Anthropology.\n<ul>\n<li>Fenigsen and James M. Wilce co-authored, \u201cEditors Introduction,\u201d with Sonya Pritzker of the University of Alabama.<\/li>\n<li>Fenigsen, James M. Wilce and <strong>Rebekah Wilce<\/strong> co-authored, \u201cPerspectives on Emotion, Emotionality, and Language: Past and Present.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Senior lecturer <strong>Leila Monaghan<\/strong> authored, \u201cLaughter, Joy, Sorrow, Stigma: The Making and Breaking of Sign Language Communities.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Faculty from the School of Art have had several accomplishments.\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/wordpresst\/uploads\/sites\/153\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/1-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-58405 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/wordpresst\/uploads\/sites\/153\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/1-1.jpg\" alt=\"Van Ness Sculpture\" width=\"255\" height=\"174\" srcset=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2020\/01\/1-1.jpg 1500w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2020\/01\/1-1-300x205.jpg 300w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2020\/01\/1-1-1024x699.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2020\/01\/1-1-768x524.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 255px) 100vw, 255px\" \/><\/a>\u201cLady Liberty,\u201d a sculpture by senior lecturer <strong>David Van Ness<\/strong>, was displayed in the group show <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ro2art.com\/thingness.html\">Thingness<\/a> at the Ro2 Art Cedars gallery in Dallas. The sculpture was created from a manipulated Statue of Liberty with 10 years of immigration data from New York and will be on display at the Udinotti Museum of Figurative Art in Paradise Valley from April though August.<\/li>\n<li>Paintings from Du Yuanyuan will be displayed in the show \u201cA Glimpse\u201d at the School of Art\u2019s Beasley Gallery from Jan. 12-31. Senior lecturer <strong>Debra Edgerton<\/strong> served as a mentor for Yuanyuan.<\/li>\n<li>Assistant professor <strong>Jaewook Lee<\/strong> organized an international symposium entitled \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/mindfuljoint.com\/\">The Retro-causation in Time: The Effect of the Future<\/a>,\u201d held in China. The event focused on the notion of backward causation in time. Lee also received a grant from the Art Council Korea for participation in the Contemporary Art Festival in Antofagasta, Chile.<\/li>\n<li>Assistant professor of practice <strong>Jessica Royale MacKenzie<\/strong> has 17 colored pencil animal portraits and acrylic abstract paintings on display on the second-floor gallery in Riles Hall on the Flagstaff Mountain Campus.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Maiah Jaskoski<\/strong>, associate professor of politics and international affairs, authored \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ingentaconnect.com\/content\/cuny\/cp\/pre-prints\/content-jcpo_52404\">Participatory Institutions as a Focal Point for Mobilizing: Prior Consultation and Indigenous Conflict in Colombia\u2019s Extractive Industries<\/a>,\u201d published in Comparative Politics. The article looks at how the participatory institution \u201cprior consultation\u201d indirectly gave Colombian indigenous communities a voice in five major hydrocarbon and mining conflicts based on Jaskoski\u2019s fieldwork conducted in 2016 with support from the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Matt A. Casado<\/strong>, professor emeritus in The W. A. Franke College of Business, published the second edition of his book \u201cHospitality Management.\u201d The book provides hotel and restaurant management instructors with a textbook tailored to teach the capstone course.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Nena Bloom<\/strong> and <strong>Lori Rubino-Hare<\/strong> from the Center for Science Teaching and Learning, along with recent graduates <strong>Megan Walker<\/strong> and <strong>Kayla Arendt<\/strong>, co-authored \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tandfonline.com\/doi\/full\/10.1080\/09500693.2019.1699975\">Scaling professional development: Preparing professional development providers to lead Power of Data Teacher Workshops<\/a>,\u201d published in the International Journal of Science Education. The paper shares results of the NSF-funded <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pod-stem.org\/\">Power of Data<\/a> project, which studies the scale up of a successful professional development model to help teachers enhance their instruction with Geographic Information Systems.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/nau.edu\/online\/master-of-organizational-leadership\/\"><strong>NAU\u2019s<\/strong> Online Master of Organizational Leadership<\/a> degree was ranked No. 16 for affordability by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.collegevaluesonline.com\/rankings\/graduate\/masters-leadership-online\/\">College Values Online.<\/a> Cost, return on investment, rankings and in-state tuition were considered.<\/li>\n<li><strong>NAU<\/strong> was ranked <a href=\"https:\/\/affordableschools.net\/online-bachelors-public-administration\/\"> 18<\/a> on a list for the best affordable online bachelor\u2019s degrees in <a href=\"https:\/\/nau.edu\/online\/bachelor-public-administration\/\">Public Administration<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/affordableschools.net\/online-bachelors-parks-recreation-leisure-studies\/\">No. 6<\/a> on a list for best affordable bachelor\u2019s degrees in <a href=\"https:\/\/nau.edu\/online\/bs-parks-and-recreation-management\/\">Parks, Recreation and Leisure Studies<\/a> by Affordable Schools. Student-to-faculty ratio, average cost of attendance and graduation were all considered.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/wordpresst\/uploads\/sites\/153\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Screen-Shot-2019-12-18-at-4.18.15-PM.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-58337 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/wordpresst\/uploads\/sites\/153\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Screen-Shot-2019-12-18-at-4.18.15-PM.png\" alt=\"MPA China group\" width=\"361\" height=\"204\" srcset=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2019\/12\/Screen-Shot-2019-12-18-at-4.18.15-PM.png 548w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2019\/12\/Screen-Shot-2019-12-18-at-4.18.15-PM-300x170.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 361px) 100vw, 361px\" \/><\/a>An opening ceremony for the <strong>MPA-China<\/strong> (masters of public administration) kicked off the start of this program and recognized the work and leadership that went into the creation of the program. <strong>Lori Poloni-Staudinger<\/strong>, a professor of politics and international affairs and associate dean of the College of Social &amp; Behavioral Sciences, who created and championed this new program in China, participated in the ceremony, as did <strong>Bruce Wang, <\/strong>director of Asian Academic Engagement. <a href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/mpa-china-agreement\/\">In July, President <strong>Rita Cheng<\/strong> signed an agreement<\/a> that allows students in China to earn a master\u2019s of public administration degree from NAU.
