<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\nThere\u2019s still time to register for Climate 2020: Seven Generations for Arizona,\nthe first solutions-focused statewide climate summit for all Arizonans to be\nhosted at NAU Friday and Saturday Nov. 15-16. A free performance by hip-hop\nartist Xiuhtezcatl Martinez and screening of \u201cIce on Fire\u201dat the\nOrpheum TheaterNov. 15 is free to\nall, and tickets are available now at locations\naround campus and Flagstaff<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n With partnership from Arizona State\nUniversity, University of Arizona and communities throughout the state, Climate 2020: Seven Generations for Arizona <\/a>is a two-day event that will bring together\nyouth, community leaders, decisionmakers and researchers to discuss Arizona\u2019s\nvulnerabilities to the climate crisis and consider how the state can respond. Featuring\na youth town hall and climate action forum led by high school leaders from throughout\nArizona, the summit features more than 40 speakers on a broad range of\nissues including climate and health, rural resilience, community action, water and\nwildfire response and management. The keynote sessions on Nov. 15 will be\nlivestreamed on Twitter<\/a>, Instagram<\/a> and NAU-TV<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Bruce Hungate<\/strong>, director of the Center for Ecosystem Science and Society<\/a> (Ecoss) at NAU, which is one of the sponsors\nof the summit, spoke about the importance of addressing these issues in\nArizona.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWe know that the changes\nhappening globally affect Arizona, and we\u2019re observing them\neverywhere: under the microscope, on our farms and in our front\nyards,\u201d said Hungate, who is chair of the McAllister Initiative on\nCommunity, Culture, and Environment. \u201cIt\u2019s time for a new kind\nof conversation, one that brings all of our voices to\nbear on the big question: What do we want to do now?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n The summit aims to transform the conversation\nabout climate in Arizona, moving beyond drought contingency plans and into a\ncomprehensive and future-oriented framework of creative and science-driven\ndecision-making. Summit partners include Ecoss, the Institute for Tribal\nEnvironmental Professionals, the Center for Health Equity Research, the Biology\nDepartment, Green Fund, Student Activities Council, the Sustainability Program\nof Flagstaff and a corps of more than 50 NAU volunteers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Summit registration is $10 for university\nstudents, faculty and staff.
