{"id":57542,"date":"2019-10-24T14:53:25","date_gmt":"2019-10-24T21:53:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/?p=57542"},"modified":"2019-10-25T09:54:55","modified_gmt":"2019-10-25T16:54:55","slug":"canyon-country-aesthetics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/canyon-country-aesthetics\/","title":{"rendered":"Honors College students display art created through Canyon Country Aesthetics program"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Oct. 24, 2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Northern Arizona University\u2019s Honors College will display student art from its flagship Canyon Country Aesthetics (CCA) program 5:30-7:30 p.m. Oct. 30 in room 155 of the Honors College, academic side.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">CCA, a program created to expose Honors College students to the natural beauty of the outdoors, partners with local Flagstaff artists who take students on weekend camping trips throughout northern Arizona. During the first 10 weeks of the fall semester, participating students get out of the classroom for experiential learning, arts education and the celebration and preservation of the environment surrounding Flagstaff.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;The NAU Honors College is distinguished by its commitment to hands-on, site-based education,\u201d said <strong>Kevin Gustafson<\/strong>, dean of the Honors College. \u201cCanyon Country Aesthetics is just one of many innovative programs that draw on the rich natural and cultural resources of Flagstaff and the northern Colorado Plateau.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This year, the program partnered with Flagstaff artists <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicinemangallery.com\/shonto-begay-biography\">Shonto Begay<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bruceaiken.com\/\">Bruce Aiken<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/dawnkishphotography.com\/\">Dawn Kish<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.simonandschuster.com\/authors\/Kevin-Fedarko\/64833987\">Kevin Fedarko<\/a>. Each artist hosts workshops with students, creating the opportunity for experimentation in the aesthetic. Seventeen of these works will be on display at the event, which will also feature spoken word poetry.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This event is free and open to the public with parking available at the surrounding lots (P29, P30, P29B and P96A).
