UTS
is switching to a new License Plate Recognition (LPR) system. Replacing the
sticker permits displayed in windshields, permits will now be registered to
license plates, which can be digitally scanned and checked for permit
compliance. LPR allows drivers to virtually switch a permit between registered
vehicles and removes the need for temporary paper permits and replacement fees
for lost, stolen or damaged sticker permits. That means less wasted time, money
and environmental resources.

Parking garages on campus have not yet been upgraded to the
LPR system and will continue to use traditional permits. The technology update
is in development and expected to be ready in 2020.

Pricing and payments

Employee and garage permit prices have increased to better
reflect accommodation and maintenance needs. A list of parking permit prices
and designated zones is available online.

Benefit-eligible faculty and staff can sign up for payroll
deduction to have the price of a permit deducted over several pay periods
or the academic year. Employees purchasing a semester permit may select to pay
over five pay periods. Non-benefit eligible employees may place the cost of the
permit on LOUIE. Part-time employee permits are available for staff who
work 19 hours a week or less, teach six credits or less and who are non-benefit
eligible.

UTS is waiving the $20 fee for the optional, supplemental
plate commuters using the LPR system to display on the front of their vehicle
if they wish to back into a space or pull forward.

For more information, contact University Transit Services at
(928) 523-6623 or via email at ask-parking@nau.edu.

July 24, 2019 Fall semester is closing in, and with it comes a friendly reminder from University Transit Services (UTS) about the new parking permit protocol.
