{"id":55752,"date":"2019-05-21T13:41:36","date_gmt":"2019-05-21T20:41:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/?p=55752"},"modified":"2019-05-21T13:41:37","modified_gmt":"2019-05-21T20:41:37","slug":"nau-yuma-new-degree","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/nau-yuma-new-degree\/","title":{"rendered":"NAU Yuma announces expanded health education programs in partnership with Arizona Western College"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>May 21, 2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Northern\nArizona University will begin offering a bachelor\u2019s degree in health sciences\nat NAU Yuma beginning in fall 2020. NAU\u2019s B.S. in Health Sciences program is\noffered online in a 90\/30 format where students can transfer up to 90 credits\nfrom applicable community college programs into the degree completion program\nat NAU. Students then complete their bachelor\u2019s degree with 30 credits at NAU. Beginning\nin fall 2020, NAU Yuma will host an on-site program for this degree which has\nshown high student demand statewide, growing in program enrollment from approximately\n350 students in 2007 when it was established to its current enrollment of more\nthan 1,140 students this year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many\nemployers hiring in allied health areas that require licensure\/certification\nare seeking individuals who also have bachelor\u2019s degrees. Part of NAU\u2019s\nstrategic plan is ensuring degree programs help meet industry needs in the\nstate of Arizona and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere is a growing demand for health care professionals throughout the State of Arizona,\u201d NAU President <strong>Rita Cheng<\/strong> said. \u201cNAU is proud to partner with Arizona Western College in offering a bachelor\u2019s degree pathway in health sciences to prepare the next generation of health care leaders in Yuma.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NAU\nYuma has a rich and valued history in the community, providing education\nprograms for more than 30 years. NAU offers numerous undergraduate programs at its\nYuma location, located on the Arizona Western College campus and in partnership\nwith AWC, in addition to several graduate programs, including elementary education,\njustice studies, nursing and social work.
