{"id":55717,"date":"2019-05-14T12:04:00","date_gmt":"2019-05-14T19:04:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/?p=55717"},"modified":"2019-05-16T13:48:08","modified_gmt":"2019-05-16T20:48:08","slug":"ihd-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/ihd-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"IHD announces third annual Evidence for Success Disability Conference in July"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>May 14, 2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More than 600 attendees, representing all aspects of the disability community in Arizona and beyond, are expected to attend this year\u2019s Evidence for Success Disability Conference. The conference, one of Arizona\u2019s key disability-related events, is organized by NAU\u2019s Institute of Human Development (IHD) and will be taking place July 14-16 at Fort McDowell Nation\u2019s we-Ko-Pa Resort&amp; Conference Center in Scottsdale\/Fountain Hills. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nconference format integrates three of IHD\u2019s project areas into one educational\nevent, including: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Assistive technology<\/strong>, which this year is celebrating 20 years as\nArizona\u2019s largest, most comprehensive Assistive Technology conference <\/li><li><strong>Evidence-based practice in disability disciplines, <\/strong>which for five years has\nbeen bridging the research-to practice gap to help professionals implement\nevidence-based practices<\/li><li><strong>American Indian Vocational Rehabilitation Training and\nTechnical Assistance Center<\/strong>, a program that supports positive outcomes for tribal\nmembers receiving vocational rehabilitation services <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur\nannual conference is a good reflection of IHD with its multi-faceted,\nmulti-programmatic approach to driving change and promoting inclusion for\npeople with disabilities,\u201d conference chairwoman <strong>Jill Pleasant<\/strong> said. \u201cAttendees can tailor the conference to meet\ntheir individual needs, mixing and matchings sessions from the various tracks\nto maximize the benefit and the learning that they get out of the conference.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2019 Evidence for Success Disability Conference is\ndesigned to give anyone who works with people with disabilities the knowledge\nand skills necessary to facilitate access, change attitudes and promote\ninclusion so people with disabilities can fully participate in all life\nexperiences. It will feature more than 65 educational sessions presented by\nspeakers recognized for their content area expertise both nationally and\nlocally. The conference also will include an expansive exhibit hall showcasing\nstate-of-the-art assistive technology products and community resources. Attendees\ntypically come from a wide variety of disciplines including educators, vocational\ncounselors, therapists, students and consumers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To encourage participation, registration fees for the conference are set below other Arizona and national conferences. Early-bird registration fees (through May 22) are $250 for the 2-day main conference, $150 for pre-conference workshops and $375 for both. Breakfast and lunch are included every day, as well as a networking reception and raffle tickets for 30-40 door prizes. Additionally, the community at large is invited to visit the exhibit hall, at no charge, from 1:30-6:30 p.m. July 15.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Conference attendees can earn up to 18 continuing education contact hours. This year, the conference program includes an optional AT Maker preconference event where participants will learn about the AT Maker Movement and will create and take home 10 assistive technology solutions that can be made inexpensively and quickly. The AT Maker preconference event will feature Therese Willkomm, a key leader in the AT Maker movement.
