The Northern Arizona University Shrine\nof the Ages Choir is celebrating its 86th year and will have a concert at 7:30 p.m. May 3 at the Shepherd of\nthe Hill Lutheran Church. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Under the direction of Edith A. Copley<\/strong>, regents\u2019 professor of\nmusic and director of choral studies, Shrine will perform historic and\ncontemporary choral works by Thomas Weelkes, William Billings, Benjamin Britten\nand Shawn Kirchner. The featured work will be a baroque oratorio by\nGiocomo Carissimi entitled \u201cHistoria\ndi Jephte\u201dfeaturing student soloists and NAU voice faculty\nsoprano Christine Graham<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Founded in 1933 by Eldon Ardrey, the\nShrine of the Ages Choir brought tremendous recognition to the mountain campus\nthrough its annual participation in the Easter Sunrise Service at the South Rim\nof the Grand Canyon. The service was broadcast nationally on NBC radio\naffiliate stations until 1968, including broadcasts overseas to servicemen\nduring World War II. Shrine performs a major choral\/orchestral concert each\nspring with the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra. Shrine has also appeared in\nCarnegie Hall and at national and regional conferences of the National\nAssociation for Music Educators and American Choral Directors Association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Shrine of the Ages Choir tours on a\nrotational basis\u2014within Arizona, around the Southwest region and\ninternationally to provide students with an educational global perspective. In\nMay 2020 Shrine will tour South Korea and Hong Kong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church is located at 1601 N.
