Northern Arizona University Transit Services (UTS)\nhas announced that it will transition to a streamlined parking permit system\nthat does away with windshield stickers, starting this fall. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Under the new virtual system, the permit\nholder\u2019s license plate acts as the permit\u2014there are no stickers to keep track\nof, no physical permits to lose, no replacement fees to pay. With the new\nsystem, UTS workers can digitally scan license plates and automatically check\nfor permit compliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
UTS officials said the change will make the\nparking permit system more efficient. Permit holders can manage parking\naccounts and add or deactivate license plate information for associated\nvehicles online, in real time, without having to move a sticker. For vehicles\nwithout a front license plate, permit holders will have the option to pay UTS a\none-time fee for a parking plate to attach to the front of the car. (These\nplates are only necessary when vehicles are backed into a parking spot and the\nrear license plate is not visible.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Two vehicles may still be registered to one\nparking permit and there will be no change in the citation and fine process.\nUTS will still offer a one-time ticket forgiveness option once per calendar\nyear through successful completion of the Diversion Program\u2014an alternative to\npaying a parking fine, the recipient of a parking citation may, within 14\ncalendar days of the citation\u2019s issue date, email UTS\nto request the opportunity to complete the program. (Not all citations are eligible for\nthis program.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The new permits will be available beginning\nAug. 1; current permits expire Aug. 14. Parking garages on campus will continue to use the permit\nsticker system with plans to upgrade to the virtual system next year.
