Events include concerts, freestyle rap and dance competitions and keynote speakers. This event, which is unique to NAU, is planned by students and provides an opportunity for them to share their love of this art with the community. The events are open to the public.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/hip-hop-appreciation-week\/#.XK-bk-tKjuM\">Learn more about students\u2019 experiences planning and participating in past Hip Hop Appreciation Weeks.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Events include:<\/p>\n<p><strong>April 12<\/strong>: Past Present Futuristic! Concert; 6-10 p.m. at Ashurst Auditorium<\/p>\n<p>The concert,\u00a0sponsored by SUN Entertainment, features A$AP Twelvyy, Futuristic and Haiku d\u2019Etat. Tickets are available at <a href=\"http:\/\/nau.edu\/CTO\">NAU.edu\/CTO<\/a> or by calling (928) 523-5661.<\/p>\n<p><strong>April 15:<\/strong> Open Mic Night: Word! \u2013 Words and Political Expression; 6-9 p.m. at SBS-Castro 110, co-hosted by SOUL SUGAR and MC \u201cYoung Rasp\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>April 16:<\/strong> Hip Hop Beats &amp; Indigenous Rhymes<em>,<\/em> interactive keynote talk with Kyle Mays, 6-8 p.m., Ashurst Auditorium. UCLA professor <a href=\"https:\/\/afam.ucla.edu\/2017\/08\/14\/kyle-mays\/\">Kyle Mays<\/a> (Black\/Saginaw Anishinaabe) is a transdisciplinary scholar and public intellectual of urban history, Indigenous studies, Afro-Indigenous studies and popular culture, will explore the relationship between Black Americans and Indigenous peoples, moving from the foundations of the United States until the current hip hop era and will lead an interactive dialogue with the audience.<\/p>\n<p><strong>April 17:<\/strong> Indigenous Hip Hop &amp; Street Art; 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., University Union Amphitheater\/Pedway. Featuring NeoGlyphix Indigenous Aerosol Art Collective<\/p>\n<p><strong>April 18:<\/strong> Movement as Expression &amp; Resistance-Hip Hop Dance Showcase; 6:30-9 p.m., duBois Center Ballroom.
