Having an event with an established group like New York Voices allows NAU students the valuable experience of performing with and learning from experts in the music field.<\/p>\n
\u201cNew York Voices has refined their musical story to a high art,\u201d said Ryan Holder<\/strong>, associate professor in the School of Music and coordinator of the festival. \u201cThey are known for close-knit voicings, inspired arrangements and unparalleled vocal blend.\u201d<\/p>\n The concert incorporates a range of selections from both the student and pro repertoires. New York Voices will sing a variety of songs spanning their 30-year career, including jazz standards from the Great American Songbook and jazz arrangements from popular music such as Paul Simon’s “Me and Julio Down By the Schoolyard.”<\/p>\n The Shrine of the Ages’ line-up features a range of musical genres including the Indonesian stomps and claps of “Hentaken Jiwa,” the fury of energetic cries in “Ring Out Wild Bells” and the joyous, gospel shouts in “I’m Gonna Sing.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThere is a song to inspire every listener,\u201d graduate choral student Katie Sheridan <\/strong>said.<\/p>\n The concert is part of NAU\u2019s Jazz Madrigal Festival, one of the largest festivals of its kind in the United States. Students from more than 140 high school ensembles in the Southwest attend the festival, where they have the opportunity to work with professional musicians, attend clinics, perform and more. The festival, held Feb. 7-9, is hosted in numerous venues on campus and in the Flagstaff community.<\/p>\n Tickets for the Jazz Madrigal Host Concert are $20 for adults and $16 for non-NAU students, seniors and NAU faculty and staff. The concert is free to NAU students with ID.
