Volz is giving a free public presentation at 4 p.m. March 29.<\/p>\n<p>Volz, a professional artist and educator, has had artwork featured throughout the United States. His sculptures reveal a spirit of inventiveness and ingenuity and draw inspiration from the glass and steel surfaces of antique medical devices, farm machinery and domestic appliances.<a href=\"http:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/wordpresst\/uploads\/sites\/153\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/volz-todd-4we-02-13.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-uncropped-small wp-image-54206 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/wordpresst\/uploads\/sites\/153\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/volz-todd-4we-02-13-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"Art work by Todd Volz\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2019\/01\/volz-todd-4we-02-13-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2019\/01\/volz-todd-4we-02-13-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2019\/01\/volz-todd-4we-02-13-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2019\/01\/volz-todd-4we-02-13-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2019\/01\/volz-todd-4we-02-13-600x600.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The mechanical forms and antiqued surfaces that I use are meant to engage viewers in a creative process of the\u00a0their own as they attempt to discern the true function of the objects amidst varying levels of real and imagined functionality,\u201d Volz said.<\/p>\n<p>The<a href=\"https:\/\/nau.edu\/artmuseum\/current-exhibitions\/\"> NAU Art Museum<\/a> sustains its role as a leading cultural institution in northern Arizona through its acquisition of challenging, contemporary art.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has long been the objective of the NAU Art Museum to complement the robust fine arts scene in Flagstaff by introducing artists to the community who provide something different from what we typically see,\u201d museum director <strong>George Speer<\/strong> said. \u201cWith this in mind, we have consistently sought out practicing artists whose messages or aesthetics offer that complementary vision.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The NAU Art Museum is open from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
