The novel uses an app to immerse readers in an alternate universe with complex scientific challenges they must solve and overcome. Lead author L.S. Larson and the IGIST team will showcase the novel from 4-5 p.m. Jan 19 at Lowell Observatory. Admission is free to the public, and the event is geared toward middle and high school students. Reserve your seat on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.com\/e\/igist-book-launch-flagstaff-tickets-53443152909\"><span class=\"s2\">eventbrite<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and learn more about the first installment of <a href=\"https:\/\/igist.com\/\"><span class=\"s2\">IGIST online<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Senior sprinter <\/span><b>Jasmine Malone<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was named Big Sky Athlete of the Week for her performance at the Friday Night Duals. She won first place in the 300-meter race with a time of 37.94 seconds. In the 60-meter race she finished in seventh place with a time of 7.54 seconds, a tie for her personal best. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sophomore <\/span><b>Elisa Rodriguez<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was named WAC Swimmer of the Week and senior <\/span><b>Tatiana Kurach<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was named WAC Diver of the Week for their performances in the meet against Kansas and Northern Colorado. Rodriguez won first place in the 50 freestyle and second place in 100 freestyle, 200 medley race and 400 freestyle relay. Kurach won second place for both the 1-meter and 3-meter events. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Seven photojournalism students accompanied associate professor <\/span><b>Laura L. Camden <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to Cuba for the study abroad program. Students reported stories on Cuban and American relations being re-established and how the Cuban culture is changing. An exhibition of the photography will be on display at the School of Communication\u2019s gallery in early spring. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Junior <\/span><b>Chiara Tomasetti<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> earned the Big Sky\u2019s first Women\u2019s Tennis Player of the Week for compiling two singles wins and two doubles wins. This award is her fourth of her career, and she is the only nationally ranked singles player in the conference. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Graduate student <\/span><b>Ali Farghadan <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">authored the paper \u201cThe combined effect of wall shear stress topology and magnitude on cardiovascular mass transport,\u201d published in the International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer. Farghadan\u2019s paper looks at the study of how wall shear stress could potentially be used to predict qualitative surface concentration patterns without the need to solve cardiovascular mass transport problems. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"search-results-excerpt-link\" href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/in-the-student-spotlight-jan-18-2019\/\">Kudos to these students Do you have a spotlight item to share with the NAU community?
