{"id":53768,"date":"2018-12-06T15:38:43","date_gmt":"2018-12-06T22:38:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/?p=53768"},"modified":"2018-12-07T11:11:42","modified_gmt":"2018-12-07T18:11:42","slug":"fall-2018-commencement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/fall-2018-commencement\/","title":{"rendered":"Fall 2018 Commencement: What you need to know"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dec. 6, 2018<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Northern Arizona University will honor the graduating class of fall 2018 with two ceremonies on Dec. 14 at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. This semester, about 2,800 students applied to graduate. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Commencement ceremonies will be held in the J. Lawrence Walkup Skydome, which will open 90 minutes prior to the start of each ceremony. Parking will be available at multiple locations across campus, with shuttle service to and from designated parking lots. All other information regarding commencement is available at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/nau.edu\/commencement\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NAU\u2019s commencement website<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NAU has implemented a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/nau.edu\/clear-bag-policy\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">clear bag policy<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for all events in the Skydome.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Commencement ceremonies will recognize candidates for bachelor\u2019s, master\u2019s and doctoral degrees as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">10 a.m.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">College of the Environment, Forestry, and Natural Sciences<\/span><\/li>\n<li>College of Engineering, Informatics, and Applied Sciences<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The W. A. Franke College of Business<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">College of Health and Human Services<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3 p.m.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">College of Arts and Letters<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">College of Education<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NAU Online, NAU Yavapai, NAU Yuma<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">College of Social and Behavioral Sciences<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Jani C. Ingram<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, professor of chemistry and biochemistry, and <\/span><b>Gretchen Knudson Gee<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, senior lecturer and associate chair of politics and international affairs, will speak at this year\u2019s commencements. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ingram, who will speak at the 10 a.m. ceremony, investigates environmental contaminants, focusing on characterization of uranium and arsenic contamination in water, soil, plants and livestock. She is the principal investigator of the Partnership for Native American Cancer Prevention and the director of the Bridges to Baccalaureate program. In 2018, Ingram was named recipient of the American Chemical Society Award for Encouraging Disadvantaged Students into Careers in the Chemical Sciences.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gee, who will speak at the 3 p.m. ceremony, has taught in the Department of Politics and International Affairs for more than 20 years. She is the adviser for the internationally ranked Model United Nations Club, accompanying students as they compete globally. In 2008, Gee spent a year teaching international politics at the University of Tirana, Albania after receiving a Fulbright Teaching Grant. Gee was named a President\u2019s Distinguished Teaching Fellow, being appointed for three years and serving on the Northern Arizona University Teaching Academy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Both ceremonies may be viewed live at <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/nau-tv.com\/Events\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NAU-TV<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
