{"id":53644,"date":"2018-11-28T09:00:14","date_gmt":"2018-11-28T16:00:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/?p=53644"},"modified":"2018-11-30T10:06:45","modified_gmt":"2018-11-30T17:06:45","slug":"vocal-students-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/vocal-students-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"NAU vocal students earn awards at recent competitions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nov. 28, 2018<\/p>\n<p>Northern Arizona University vocal students were recognized in the Arizona District of the National Association Teachers of Singing\u00a0(NATS) on Nov. 16-18 and the Arizona District of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions on Oct. 22.<\/p>\n<p>The Valley of the Sun Chapter hosted this year\u2019s NATS awards. The awards are broken into three categories: classical, musical theater and contemporary commercial. Within each category, the awards were separated by gender, age and length of study. This year, 19 NAU students received awards.<\/p>\n<p>First place:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Hanna Van Belle<\/strong> in the classical section of Lower College Women<\/li>\n<li><strong>Abigail Bush<\/strong> in the classical section of Upper College Women<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sague Molina<\/strong> in the classical section of Upper College Men<\/li>\n<li><strong>Heather Lake<\/strong> in the classical section of Advanced College Women<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ashley Martin-Casler<\/strong> in the classical section of Adult Avocational Women<\/li>\n<li><strong>Eliza Faigel<\/strong> in the musical theater section of Lower College Women<\/li>\n<li><strong>Desmond O\u2019Connell<\/strong> in the Contemporary Commercial Adult Men category<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Second place:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>O\u2019Connell in the classical section of Lower College Men<\/li>\n<li><strong>Jessie Kate Leventis<\/strong> in the classical section of Upper College Women<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mary Kray<\/strong> in the classical section of Upper College Women<\/li>\n<li><strong>CJ Case<\/strong> in the classical section of Upper College Men<\/li>\n<li><strong>Thommy Long<\/strong> in the musical theater section of Lower Division College Men<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Third place:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Esther Evins<\/strong> in the classical section of Lower College Women<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ye Lynn Han <\/strong>in the classical section of Upper College Men<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Honorable mention:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Allison Harmon <\/strong>in the classical section of Lower College Women<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lizzy Aranda<\/strong> in the classical section of Lower College Women<\/li>\n<li><strong>MacKenzie Nelson<\/strong> in the classical section of Lower College Women<\/li>\n<li><strong>Deanna Alcala<\/strong> in the classical section of Upper College Women<\/li>\n<li><strong>Kenadee Brown<\/strong> in the classical section of Upper College Women<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lydia Bangura<\/strong> in the classical section of Upper College Women<\/li>\n<li>Van Belle in the musical theater section of Lower College Women<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Besides taking home first place, Van Belle and Lake won monetary awards from independent organizations. Lake also won the Most Promising Singer award.<\/p>\n<p>Undergrad students Lynn Han and Kray also participated in the Arizona District of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, where they competed against graduate students from other institutions.
