The School of Music invites the community to celebrate 100 years of American composer, conductor, pianist, educator and humanitarian Leonard Bernstein. As part of the Horizons Concert Series<\/a>, the Bernstein Birthday Bash featuring the NAU Faculty Chamber Players will bring to life some of Bernstein\u2019s greatest works both vocally and instrumentally. The event takes place 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 14, in the Ardrey Memorial Auditorium.<\/p>\n Attendees will hear selections from Bernstein\u2019s more famous musicals and large-scale works such as \u201cCandide,\u201d \u201cWest Side Story,\u201d \u201cPeter Pan\u201d and \u201cOn the Town,\u201d as well as more personal works such as the anniversaries for solo piano and dance suite for brass quintet. Giving a broad scope of Bernstein\u2019s work, the event is an opportunity for longtime supporters of Bernstein to remember the highlights of his career or for new listeners to be introduced to the work of a classical-music legend.<\/p>\n Commemorating a centennial of Bernstein\u2019s impact on the world as musician and philanthropist is an event of international scale, being honored with various tributes in different countries. The Bernstein Birthday Bash brings the celebration to the NAU and Flagstaff communities.<\/p>\n Tickets cost $22.50 for adults and $15 for seniors and NAU faculty and staff.
