NAU\u2019s program was also recognized as the best path to a doctorate.\u00a0Factors considered when determining rank were the academic quality of a program (graduation rate, retention rate and academic rank of online instructors), affordability (net cost and percent of students with loans and default rate), and student success (student engagement, online learning tools and assessment of current students and alumni).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Anya Malatynska<\/strong>, a lecturer in the <a href=\"https:\/\/nau.edu\/sbs\/communication\/\">School of Communication<\/a>, was a cinematographer for a modern remake of \u201cLittle Women.\u201d She has been involved in many films and TV series, including National Geographic\u2019s \u201cMost Amazing Photos,\u201d Showtime\u2019s \u201cI\u2019m Dying Up Here,\u201d and HBO\u2019s \u201cInsecure.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Cultural studies lecturer\u00a0<strong>David Church<\/strong>\u00a0published \u201cWhy Adult Film History Matters\u201d in the Journal of Cinema and Media Studies with Eric Schaefer. The article discussed the history of adult films and how they leave space for experimentation and expansion in the field of film and media studies.<\/li>\n<li>Professor of psychological sciences <strong>Larry Stevens<\/strong> presented at the annual Conference of the International Society for Neurofeedback and Research in Glendale. \u201cThe Human Compassion Circuit\u201d talked about the temporal and spatial neurological characteristics of the experience of compassion in humans. The session also described NAU\u2019s ongoing research in the Department of Psychosocial Sciences.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bj\u00f6rn Krondorfer<\/strong>, professor of religious studies and director of the Martin-Springer Institute, published \u201cReconciliation in Global Context: Why It Is Needed and How It Works.\u201d The book, which was made possible due to a seed grant from NAU\u2019s Center of International Education, allowed several international scholars to meet at Friedrich-Schiller University in Jena, Germany, to discuss their experiences and write this book.<\/li>\n<li>Center for Ecosystem Science and Society assistant research professor <strong>Christina Sch\u00e4del\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.knau.org\/post\/united-nations-report-sounds-warning-climate-change\">spoke to KNAU\u00a0<\/a>about the recent\u00a0IPCC report on climate change. Sch\u00e4del\u00a0is a contributing author for the report, in which she and\u00a0thousands of experts documented the damage one degree Celsius warming has done to Earth\u00a0and\u00a0laid out what global\u00a0efforts will be required to limit warming to 1.5 degrees. &#8220;Yes, we can make the changes,&#8221; she told KNAU. &#8220;We have to make them soon, immediately, basically.&#8221; According to Sch\u00e4del, &#8220;it\u2019s important to know that\u00a0it\u2019s not a geophysical impossibility, but the timeframe to limit warming to 1.5 degrees is dwindling rapidly.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Amy Horn<\/strong>, senior lecturer of photography, is co-author of the book \u201cThe Art of Macro Photography.\u201d The book shows images of small pieces of the natural world, using flower pistils and stamens, bug\u2019s eyes view and lacy details. Horn and her co-author Bruce Taubert will have a book signing from 2- 5 p.m. Nov. 10 at Mother Road Brewing Company.<\/li>\n<li>School of Forestry professor<strong> Thomas Kolb<\/strong> presented a talk, \u201cChallenges and Opportunities for Maintaining Ponderosa Pine Forests in the Southwestern U.S.\u201d at the annual meeting of the Western Forestry Nursery Association and Intermountain Container Seedling Growers\u2019 Association in Coeur d\u2019Alene, Idaho.<\/li>\n<li>The Best Schools ranked several of<strong> NAU\u2019s online programs <\/strong>in its latest list. NAU was ranked third in The Best Online Colleges in Arizona, second in The Best Online Bachelor\u2019s in Supply Chain and Logistics Programs, fifth in The 25 Best Online Bachelors of Social Work Degree Programs, fifth in The 10 Best Online Master\u2019s in Math Education Programs and seventh in The 10 Best Online Master\u2019s in Science Education Programs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"search-results-excerpt-link\" href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/in-the-spotlight-nov-2\/\">Kudos to these faculty, staff and programs \u00a0Do you have a spotlight item to share with the NAU community?
