Rankings are based on data collected from about 200,000 U.S. college students and examine a range of issues, including student engagement, interaction with professors, satisfaction, diversity and graduation rates. NAU\u2019s biggest jump of 74 spots was in the outcomes category, which includes graduation rates, value added by education to both salary and ability to repay student debt and the overall academic reputation. The university also rose 63 spots in resources, 37 spots in engagement and 10 spots in learning environment.\n<p><figure id=\"attachment_52444\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-52444\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/wordpresst\/uploads\/sites\/153\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/2017_10_26_NAU_HPL_072.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-52444\" src=\"http:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/wordpresst\/uploads\/sites\/153\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/2017_10_26_NAU_HPL_072-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Lerner at work\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2018\/09\/2017_10_26_NAU_HPL_072-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2018\/09\/2017_10_26_NAU_HPL_072-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2018\/09\/2017_10_26_NAU_HPL_072-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-52444\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lerner works on wearable exoskeleton<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/li>\n<li><strong>Zach Lerner<\/strong>, assistant professor in mechanical engineering, and his team were awarded a total of $599, 992 through three separate grants from the National Institute of Health, National Science Foundation and Arizona Biomedical Research Commission. All the grants will go toward work being done in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.nau.edu\/bio-mech\/\">Biomechatronics Lab<\/a> such as advancing the function of robotic, wearable exoskeletons that can improve walking ability in individuals with movement disorders.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Peter Friederici<\/strong>\u00a0published a chapter titled \u201cPrivate Memories of Public Perception: Gathering and Assessing Ecological Oral Histories in an Era of Climate Change\u201d in the book \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/global.oup.com\/academic\/product\/the-land-speaks-9780190664527?cc=us&amp;lang=en&amp;\">The Land Speaks: New Voices at the Intersection of Oral and Environmental History<\/a>.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bettie Coplan<\/strong> was named a Research Fellow in the <a href=\"https:\/\/paeaonline.org\/please-welcome-2018-2019-aapa-paea-research-fellows\/\">AAPA-PAEA (Physician Assistant Education Association)<\/a>. Coplan\u2019s one-year fellowship grants her department $25,000 to be devoted to research focusing on the physician assistant profession and education.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Gretchen Gee<\/strong>, senior lecturer of politics and international affairs, will present the paper \u201cA Dangerous Path: Journalists, Political Challengers in Putin\u2019s Russia\u201d at the <a href=\"http:\/\/pssir.org\/prior-years-accepted-papers\/#tab-5b9063e08eb82\">Political Science, Sociology, and International Relations Conference<\/a> in Singapore this month. Faculty presenters were <strong>Sara Abercrombie<\/strong>, <strong>Lore Dickey<\/strong>, <strong>Evie Garcia<\/strong>, <strong>Jon Lee<\/strong> and <strong>Ramona Mellott<\/strong>. Doctoral presenters were <strong>Jade Heffern<\/strong>, <strong>Vesna Pepic<\/strong>, <strong>Laura Rodriguez<\/strong>, <strong>Chelsey Tarazi<\/strong>, <strong>Emily Thomas<\/strong> and <strong>Melissa Wheeler<\/strong>.
