Organized around an eight-point \u201cTeaching with Compassion Oath,\u201d the book draws on real-life examples and exercises to demonstrate the power and potential of teaching from the heart.<\/li>\n<li>Professor <strong>Thomas Kolb<\/strong> of the School of Forestry presented an invited talk at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grc.org\/multiscale-plant-vascular-biology-conference\/2018\/\">Gordon Research Conference on Plasticity in Plant Vascular Systems<\/a> in West Dover, Vermont. The title of his talk was \u201cForest CSI: Understanding mechanisms of tree mortality from vascular \u2018fingerprints.\u2019\u201d\n<p><figure id=\"attachment_51893\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-51893\" style=\"width: 97px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/wordpresst\/uploads\/sites\/153\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/RogersAuthor2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-51893\" src=\"http:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/wordpresst\/uploads\/sites\/153\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/RogersAuthor2-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"Rogers portrait photo\" width=\"97\" height=\"157\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-51893\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Richard Rogers<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/li>\n<li>Professor of communication studies <strong>Richard A. Rogers<\/strong> wrote a new book, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/uofupress.lib.utah.edu\/petroglyphs-pictographs-and-projections\/\">Petroglyphs, Pictographs, and Projections: Native American Rock Art in the Contemporary Cultural Landscape<\/a>,\u201d published by the University of Utah Press. The book explores the contemporary interpretation, appropriation and management of indigenous rock art (petroglyphs and pictographs) from a critical\/cultural studies perspective.<\/li>\n<li><strong>David Church<\/strong>, lecturer in cinema studies, recently published two articles: &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/muse.jhu.edu\/article\/691989\">Queer Ethics, Urban Spaces, and the Horrors of Monogamy in <em>It Follows<\/em><\/a>&#8221; in the spring 2018 issue of Cinema Journal, and &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/sensesofcinema.com\/2018\/feature-articles\/the-doors-of-reception-notes-toward-a-psychedelic-film-investigation\/\">The Doors of Reception: Notes Toward a Psychedelic Film Investigation<\/a>&#8221; in the June 2018 issue of Senses of Cinema. He also guest-edited a fall 2017 special issue of the peer-reviewed journal Porn Studies, titled &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tandfonline.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1080\/23268743.2017.1333030?journalCode=rprn20\">Canon Fodder: Reappraising Adult Cinema&#8217;s Neglected Texts.<\/a>&#8220;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Marilya Veteto Reese<\/strong>, professor of global languages and cultures, co-translated (English to German) the book\u00a0\u201cNAVAJOLIVE,\u00a0Ein<a href=\"http:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/wordpresst\/uploads\/sites\/153\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/IMG_9399-e1532108485609.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-51872\" src=\"http:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/wordpresst\/uploads\/sites\/153\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/IMG_9399-225x300.jpeg\" alt=\"The cover of Veteto Reese's book\" width=\"107\" height=\"149\" \/><\/a> Heavy-Metal-Leben im Reservat.\u201d The book, recently released by the publishing house Hans Schiler, is a translation of the 2011 novel \u201cPutrefactionLive\u201d by Flagstaff author Warren Perkins.Perkins\u2019 novel was nominated for a Viola award in2012.<\/li>\n<li>Ethnic studies assistant professor <strong> Mark Montoya<\/strong> attended the <a href=\"http:\/\/hokkaidosummerinstitute.oia.hokudai.ac.jp\/\">Hokkaido University Summer Institute<\/a> in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan earlier this month as a guest lecturer during its Border Studies Summer School. The school\u00a0hosted more than 40 students and 12 borderlands scholars from throughout the world.
