NAU-TV has two nominated programs out of seven finalists in the outstanding live game production-collegiate student category.<\/li>\n<li>Psychological sciences professor <strong>Michelle Miller\u00a0<\/strong>gave an invited address at the 2<sup>nd<\/sup>International Forum on Future World, Future Learning at Tsinghua University in Beijing. The conference focused on the\u00a0integration of educational approaches across cultures and disciplines including neuroscience, educational psychology and cognitive psychology. Miller\u2019s address, \u201cImproving Teaching, Improving Learning: Principles from Research on Human Cognition,\u201d discussed the value of frameworks for online, blended and face-to-face university courses using cognitive principles and proposed criteria for selecting effective instructional technologies. Miller also served as a panelist at Tsinghua\u2019s Institute of Education Doctoral forum.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cline Library\u00a0<\/strong>received a $27,000 grant from the Library Services and Technology Act for its project \u201cThinking Through Making.\u201d The grant will offer education programs for the NAU and Flagstaff communities to explore, experience and create using Cline Library\u2019s MakerLab. The grant also will fund four workshops throughout the year focusing on augmented reality art, Native American jewelry making, creative writing, storytelling and illustration. The project was created by <strong>Amanda Meeks <\/strong>and <strong>Naomi Bishop<\/strong>, librarians with teaching, learning and research services.<a href=\"http:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/wordpresst\/uploads\/sites\/153\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Unknown-1-2.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-51491 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/wordpresst\/uploads\/sites\/153\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/Unknown-1-2-300x200.jpeg\" alt=\"Bill Carter addressing audience members while receiving a Bosnia and Herzegovina Friendship Award\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2018\/05\/Unknown-1-2-300x200.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2018\/05\/Unknown-1-2-768x512.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2018\/05\/Unknown-1-2-1024x682.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2018\/05\/Unknown-1-2.jpeg 1600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>Creative media and film professor <strong>Bill Carter\u00a0<\/strong>received a Bosnia and Herzegovina Friendship Award at an event in Washington, D.C., earlier this month. Carter received the award for his ongoing work toward peace and ethnic diversity in the Balkans. Carter began his work in Bosnia in 1993 when he developed creative approaches to help besieged citizens of Sarajevo to bring attention to the genocide that was happening in Bosnia.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Aaron Smith\u00a0<\/strong>was awarded the Distinguished Assistant Professor award for the Department of Biological Sciences and the Jerry O. Wolff Distinguished Faculty award. Smith teaches entomology, undergraduate research and graduate seminars and oversees the graduate thesis within the department of biological sciences. He also is the division curator for the Colorado Plateau Museum of Arthropod Biodiversity.<\/li>\n<li>NAU track and field director\u00a0<strong>Michael Smith<\/strong>\u00a0swept all six Big Sky Conference awards during cross country and track and field seasons.
