The following students won awards in various categories \u2013 Upper Men\/Women, Lower Men\/Women, Advanced College\/Independent Studio and Upper Advanced College Divisions: <strong>Mariana Velasco<\/strong> and <strong>Staci Dickens<\/strong>, first place; <strong>Heather Lake<\/strong>, second place; and <strong>Hailey Atwell, Deanna Alcala, Talen Swan, Ye Lynn Han<\/strong> and <strong>Ashley Martin-Casler<\/strong>, third place. Honorable Mentions include <strong>Amanda Matthews, Kenadee Brown, Sydney Murrel, Elizabeth Aranda, Stephanie Baker, Mackenzie Nelson, Amanda Booth, Talia Ruiz, Kaylee Berry, Sague Molina<\/strong> and <strong>Tanner Gill<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Choral music education senior <strong>Shelby Matlock<\/strong> was named Outstanding Future Choral Educator of the Year at the Arizona Choral Educators (ACE) 2018 Arizona Music Educators Association in-service conference. Matlock is president of NAU\u2019s student chapter of the American Choral Directors Association and a member of Shrine of Ages Choir, High Altitude, Chamber Singers, Women\u2019s Chorale and is student conductor of University Singers.<\/li>\n<li><strong>NAZ Today<\/strong> was awarded first place for Student Newscasts by the Broadcast Education Association. In addition, graduate instrumental conducting student <strong>Kin To \u201cDesmond\u201d Siu<\/strong> was one of three conductors invited to participate in a workshop with a live orchestra and guest clinician.<\/li>\n<li>A vocal octet from the Northern Arizona University <a href=\"https:\/\/nau.edu\/cal\/music\/\">School of Music<\/a> performed the National Anthem at the Phoenix Suns home game last week.
