{"id":49747,"date":"2017-12-06T10:45:40","date_gmt":"2017-12-06T17:45:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/?p=49747"},"modified":"2017-12-06T10:45:40","modified_gmt":"2017-12-06T17:45:40","slug":"educator-preparation-accreditation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/educator-preparation-accreditation\/","title":{"rendered":"NAU only university in Arizona to receive coveted educator preparation accreditation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>More than 40 education programs across four colleges at Northern Arizona University have been nationally accredited through the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP)\u2014making NAU one of 43 providers from 22 states and the only institute of higher education in Arizona to be honored with this distinction.<\/p>\n<p>This evidence-based accreditation that assures quality and supports continuous improvement of student learning not only draws attention to the merit of the programs offered at NAU, but also the value of its teachers who enter the workforce after graduation.<\/p>\n<p>On average, more than 900 students from the <a href=\"https:\/\/nau.edu\/coe\/\">College of Education<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/nau.edu\/CAL\/\">College of Arts &amp; Letters<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/nau.edu\/cefns\/\">College of Engineering, Forestry, &amp; Natural Sciences<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/nau.edu\/chhs\/\">College of Health &amp; Human Services<\/a> graduate from NAU\u2019s teacher preparation and advanced education programs each year. With this accreditation, students who complete these programs will have met national standards for education within the profession and will be ready to enter a classroom prepared for the professional challenges and teach effectively.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAccreditation provides our graduates with a competitive advantage within the field,\u201d said <strong>Cynthia Conn<\/strong>, assistant vice provost in NAU\u2019s professional education program. \u201cIt requires programs to meet a high level of expectations in preparing highly effective teacher candidates, educational professionals and leaders to meet the current and changing needs of school communities in the state.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This national accreditation application process supported the development of NAU\u2019s strategic focus to combat Arizona\u2019s significant teacher shortage by recruiting new education students.
