When used in a traditional Navajo cooking method, Begay discovered juniper ash is a good source of calcium. He took many samples of juniper ash and found that not only does one gram of the ash have about the same amount of calcium as a glass of milk, but also the body absorbs the juniper ash easier than dairy products, particularly since many Native Americans are lactose-intolerant.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"search-results-excerpt-link\" href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/in-the-student-spotlight-sept-7-2017\/\">Kudos to these faculty and staff Do you have a spotlight item to share with the NAU community?
