The Institute for Human Development<\/a> (IHD) at Northern Arizona University recently earned a grant to help Arizonans with disabilities live a full life. Executive director Kelly Roberts<\/strong> is principal investigator for the five-year $2.735 million interdisciplinary grant entitled \u201cThe Arizona University Center on Disabilities,\u201d\u00a0which will help the university support persons with disabilities and their families in the state.<\/p>\n

The grant is funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Community Living, Administration on Intellectual and other Developmental Disabilities.<\/p>\n

The purpose of the project is to improve access, attitudes and inclusion for individuals with developmental disabilities.\u00a0 This closely aligns with the institute\u2019s long-term goal of improving quality of life for this population.\u00a0 The project team plans to bring its goals to fruition by providing the infrastructure to support pre-service (university-based) programs, research\/evaluation and community services (community training\/technical assistance).<\/p>\n

The Institute for Human Development is a research and training program that is part of University Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities. IHD strives to help people with disabilities participate in all of life\u2019s experiences. It is made up of university faculty and others who represent a range of human service disciplines and offers resources and programs for both students and members of the community.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
