{"id":47792,"date":"2017-06-15T10:08:52","date_gmt":"2017-06-15T17:08:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/?p=47792"},"modified":"2017-06-16T15:18:42","modified_gmt":"2017-06-16T22:18:42","slug":"naus-121-graduates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/naus-121-graduates\/","title":{"rendered":"President Cheng visits China to commend NAU&#8217;s 1+2+1 graduates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For the second\u00a0time in Northern Arizona University\u2019s history, the president attended the annual graduation ceremony at Dalian Jiaotong University in China to congratulate firsthand the 35\u00a0graduates who participated in NAU\u2019s 1+2+1 program.<\/p>\n<p>A partnership between more than 80 Chinese universities and 20 U.S. universities, the 1+2+1 program allows Chinese students to spend two or three years\u00a0studying abroad, earning an undergaduate degree from both universities. In 2004, NAU was one of the earliest U.S. institutions to join the program, graduating 300 in the past decade with many others still working on their degree.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNorthern Arizona University is extremely grateful to be a key partner in this extraordinary initiative,\u201d <strong>President Rita Cheng<\/strong> told a crowd of hundreds at the May 28 graduation. \u201cThe transformative 1+2+1 dual-degree program has provided participating Chinese students with unique experiences, preparing them to join global society and enter the workforce with a deeper understanding of the social and political dynamics necessary for success in the 21st century.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_47794\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-47794\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/wordpresst\/uploads\/sites\/153\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/FullSizeRender.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-47794 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/wordpresst\/uploads\/sites\/153\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/FullSizeRender-300x245.jpg\" alt=\"Cheng poses with NAU alumni\" width=\"300\" height=\"245\" srcset=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2017\/06\/FullSizeRender-300x245.jpg 300w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2017\/06\/FullSizeRender-768x627.jpg 768w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2017\/06\/FullSizeRender-1024x836.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-47794\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cheng poses with NAU alumni<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Cheng represented the 16 U.S. universities at the ceremony as the opening speaker, and she also spoke at the alumni reception.
