Last month, Leve presented a paper entitled \u201c\u2019Bring my goat [cane] [wheelchair] [ ]\u2019: The Intersectionality of Race and Disability in \u2018Porgy and Bess\u2019\u201d at the annual meeting of the Society for American Music. This month Leve will participate in \u201cScottsboro Boys: Inspiring Community Hope and Understanding\u201d program series sponsored by the Center for the Study of Race and Democracy at ASU.<\/li>\n<li>School of Communication photography lecturer <strong>Amy Horn<\/strong> and five other local photographers are presenting their photographic work, \u201cWhen Earth Meets the Sky\u201d at Brandy\u2019s Restaurant and Bakery, 1500 E. Cedar Ave. This is the seventh year Horn has displayed her work at Brandy&#8217;s and this year is joined by Abe Snider, Monica Saaty, Charles Ruscher, Gwenn McCaleb and Adam Schallau. Brandy&#8217;s is open from 6:30am &#8211; 3pm daily. This show can be viewed until May 29, 2017.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Marilya Veteto Reese<\/strong>, professor of German, co-translated the book \u201cThe Art of Science\u201d alongside Elizabeth Oehlkers Wright. Reese has worked on an English-to-German novel by Flagstaff author Warren Perkins, entitled \u201cNAVAJO LIVE\u201d which will be released in a bilingual reading event featuring the new documentary film, \u201cArt of the People,\u201d filmed by NAU filmmaker <strong>Kiril Kirkov<\/strong>, and subtitled in German by Reese. This summer Reese will conduct interviews with refugees in Germany and Austria for a new German course this fall. Reese also transcribed and translated Kirkov\u2019s three other documentaries on refugees in Austria earlier this year. Reese\u2019s summer research is to be funded by NAU\u2019s Center for International Education, as well as a scholarship and Creative Activity Program Award.<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Parade of Nations kicked off NAU\u2019s International Week with more than\u00a030 countries represented by international students, some in traditional dress. The students were joined by <strong>President Rita Cheng<\/strong> and <strong>Center for International Education<\/strong> staff (see photo below). The colorful ensemble walked the length of the university, celebrating NAU\u2019s global commitment.
