Graduate students <strong>Jorge Garza<\/strong> and <strong>Danielle Austin<\/strong> and undergraduate researchers <strong>Rebecca Weiss<\/strong>, <strong>Robert Jaxel<\/strong>, <strong>Anthony Cordes<\/strong>, <strong>Karolina Pieja<\/strong> and <strong>Phillip Rody<\/strong> are part of the Community University Public Inquiry, an interdisciplinary research project that gives undergraduates the opportunity to do community-based research with local organizations. The group partnered with Northern Arizona Interfaith Council to improve training and resources for counselors in local schools to support immigrant students and families. The group of students (pictured left) was led by\u00a0<strong>Leah Mundell<\/strong>, lecturer in anthropology.<\/li>\n<li>A team of students from the <strong>Franke College of Business<\/strong> recently won the local competition for the CFA Institute Global Investment Research Challenge. They beat the University of Arizona, Arizona State University, the University of Nevada-Las Vegas and the University of New Mexico and move onto the Americas competition in early April to earn a spot at the global finals in Prague.<\/li>\n<li>\n<figure id=\"attachment_46699\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-46699\" style=\"width: 215px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/wordpresst\/uploads\/sites\/153\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/AustinDikeman_2ndStudent_20170211.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-46699 \" src=\"http:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/wordpresst\/uploads\/sites\/153\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/AustinDikeman_2ndStudent_20170211-e1489098428512-270x300.jpg\" alt=\"Austin Dikeman holds award\" width=\"215\" height=\"239\" srcset=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2017\/03\/AustinDikeman_2ndStudent_20170211-e1489098428512-270x300.jpg 270w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2017\/03\/AustinDikeman_2ndStudent_20170211-e1489098428512-768x854.jpg 768w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2017\/03\/AustinDikeman_2ndStudent_20170211-e1489098428512-921x1024.jpg 921w, https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/402\/2017\/03\/AustinDikeman_2ndStudent_20170211-e1489098428512.jpg 1372w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 215px) 100vw, 215px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-46699\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Austin Dikeman<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Austin Dikeman<\/strong>, a sophomore biology major, won second place for her presentation at The Wildlife Society\u2019s Arizona-New Mexico Joint Annual Meeting in February. Her presentation, in which she competed against graduate students, was titled \u201cITS2good to be true: an optimal metabarcoding approach for diet analysis of endangered herbivores.\u201d Dikeman works with the <a href=\"http:\/\/nau.edu\/cefns\/forestry\/research\/bats\/\">Bat Ecology &amp; Genetics Lab<\/a> in the School of Forestry and in the Pathogen and Microbiome Institute at NAU.<\/li>\n<li>NAU sent 102 students to Tucson for the National Collegiate Leadership Conference, \u201cBreaking the Silence: Engaging Introvert in Extrovert Leadership Styles.\u201d NAU hosted 12 breakout sessions out of the 80 offered at the conference, and students <strong>Alannah Don<\/strong> and <strong>Erika Stahl<\/strong>, two Peer Jacks mentors, won the award for outstanding presentation of the conference.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"search-results-excerpt-link\" href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/student-spotlight-march-9\/\">Kudos to these\u00a0students Do you have a spotlight item to share with the NAU community?
