NAU adopted its tobacco-free campus policy in 2016 to further demonstrate the university\u2019s commitment to wellness and public health by creating a healthy environment for the NAU community.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Kurt Lancaster<\/strong>, professor of creative media and film, and <strong>Peter Friederici<\/strong>, director of sustainable communities and associate professor of journalism, have earned an Award of Excellence in the Faculty Video Competition of the <a href=\"https:\/\/beaweb.org\/festival\/\">National Broadcast Education Association&#8217;s Festival of Media Arts 2017<\/a>. The faculty members worked alongside students in the production of the project to earn the award for Mixed Video.<\/li>\n<li>Associate clinical professor in the College of Education, <strong>Suzanne Becker O&#8217;Keeffe<\/strong>, and retired education professor Catherine Medina recently published two articles showcasing research in diversity in middle school classrooms. \u201cNine strategies for helping middle school students weather the perfect storm of disability, diversity, and adolescence\u201d was published in the latest edition of the American Secondary Education Journal, and \u201cEngaging Inclusive Educators: Teaching Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Exceptional (CLDE) Students in Middle School Classrooms\u201d was presented in the American Council on Rural Special Education conference.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tim Yamamura<\/strong>, lecturer in English, and <strong>Michael Amundson<\/strong>, history professor, were recently interviewed by the BBC for an upcoming program on the cultural history of Mars.\u00a0The pair presented their work last fall at a centennial history of Percival Lowell&#8217;s death at Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff.\u00a0The BBC will broadcast the interview in March.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Nancy Wonders<\/strong>, criminology and criminal justice professor, recently published the article \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?sa=t&amp;rct=j&amp;q=&amp;esrc=s&amp;source=web&amp;cd=1&amp;ved=0ahUKEwjphouG55LSAhXLiFQKHRKSC50QFggcMAA&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fjournals.sagepub.com%2Fdoi%2Fabs%2F10.1177%2F1477370816640140&amp;usg=AFQjCNEo_kjVgVpIGuAFDNffL-0ljGrNGw&amp;sig2=sjzC9xz8FsJPiS4iSNfdzA\">Sitting on the Fence\u2013Spain\u2019s Delicate Balance:\u00a0Bordering, Multiscaler Challenges, and Crimmigration<\/a>\u201d in the most recent issue of the European Journal of Criminology.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"search-results-excerpt-link\" href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/spotlight-feb-17-2017\/\">Kudos to these faculty and staff Do you have a spotlight item to share with the NAU community?
