The Northern Arizona University School of Music\u2019s\u00a0Horizons Concert Series<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0is celebrating its 10th year of bringing acclaimed musical guests to northern Arizona audiences with a busy\u00a0Spring 2017 concert lineup.<\/p>\n

\"ETHEL<\/a>\u201cThe River\u201d<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>featuring<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>ETHEL<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>with<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Robert Mirabal<\/strong><\/p>\n

7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, Ashurst Hall<\/p>\n

Using rivers as inspiration for collaboration, the music of the string quartet ETHEL and Native American flutist Robert Mirabal explores water as the embodiment of spirit and its essential role in life on earth. This cross-cultural concert experience is an integral journey in instrumental virtuosity, song and storytelling. Mirabal is a Grammy Award-winning musician and instrument builder.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Food of Love: Songs for Shakespeare\u201d<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>featuring<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>The Baltimore Consort<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"Baltimore<\/a>7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27, Ashurst Hall<\/p>\n

The Baltimore Consort presents a new program featuring its core repertory\u2014music of the Elizabethan era\u2014with songs and consort music from the Shakespeare plays. Soprano Danielle Svonavec performs some of the greatest hits from the Bard\u2019s songbook. Instrumentalists perform dances and music related to the plays, using their \u201cexquisite consort\u201d of instruments\u2014lute, cittern, viols and flute.\"Roberto<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cItalia Moderna\u201d<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>featuring<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Roberto Turrin<\/strong>, piano<\/strong><\/p>\n

7:30 p.m. Monday, Mar. 6, Ashurst Hall<\/p>\n

Italian pianist Roberto Turrin explores the question, \u201cDoes humor belong in music?\u201d through works by 20th-century Italian composers and their French contemporaries. Turrin graduated from the G. Tartini Conservatory of Music in Trieste, where he serves as director. After receiving awards from the International Music Competitions in Stresa and Morcone, Turrin began his career as a soloist, performing in both North America and Europe, receiving wide acclaim from the public and critics alike.<\/p>\n

\u201cFaust II\u201d<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>featuring<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Jeffrey Swann & Friends\"Jeffrey<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

7:30 p.m., Monday, Mar. 20, Ashurst Hall<\/p>\n

Pianist Jeffrey Swann\u2019s large and varied repertoire includes more than 60 concertos as well as solo works ranging from Bach to Boulez performed throughout the United States, Europe, Latin America and Asia. This performance builds on his fall performance and features solo piano music inspired by the disillusioned scholar Faust and his unholy pact with Mephistopheles.<\/p>\n

\u201cEchoes\u201d<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>featuring<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Elena Urioste<\/strong>, violin and<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Michael Brown<\/strong>, piano<\/strong><\/p>\n

7:30 p.m. Monday, Apr. 17, Ashurst Hall\"Urioste<\/a><\/p>\n

Violinist Elena Urioste and pianist-composer Michael Brown perform works from their new CD \u201cEchoes,\u201d which features early recital works by Richard Strauss, Maurice Ravel, Amy Beach and Michael Brown. After\u00a0numerous BBC Radio 3 broadcasts, performing two acclaimed recitals in London\u2019s legendary Wigmore Hall and touring the Southwest and West Coast in the United States., Urioste and Brown are poised to share their artistry with new audiences in the upcoming concert season.<\/p>\n

Parking in campus lots P3 (behind Gammage), P8 (north of the College of Education on Knoles Drive) and P4 (ADA stalls near Ashurst) is free for those who plan to attend the Horizons Concert Series.<\/p>\n
