Northern Arizona University President Rita Cheng invited the NAU community to celebrate Black History Month, highlighting rich and diverse traditions African-American students, faculty and staff have contributed to the university\u2019s unique culture.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are proud to celebrate Black History Month as a time that encourages reflection on the many ways in which African-Americans have played key roles in defining American culture,\u201d Cheng said. \u201cThroughout history, African-Americans have contributed to all aspects of our country’s development and legacies\u2014from education and art to politics, science and medicine.\u201d<\/p>\n
She noted how proud she and the university administration are of students who put on different programs and events to honor the contributions of African-Americans. The Black Student Union has planned a number of events, including a celebration of black history, to which all members of the NAU community are invited. More information on those celebrating Black History Month\u00a0can be found here<\/a>.<\/p>\n Cheng also reiterated the university\u2019s mission of providing a full, diverse educational experience that allows students to gain the knowledge and expertise they need to be successful in college and beyond.<\/p>\n \u201cWe consistently work to enhance programs and resources for the success of our diverse student populations\u201d she said. \u201cThis includes the development of a Diversity Strategic Plan to support the academic and leadership development of all students on our campus.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
